As a moderate with mostly Libertarian views in FL, DeSantis is doing a really good job I’m FL. He was integral in fixing our insurance crisis recently. Our former laws had FL creating 78% of insurance lawsuits in the country with approximately 8% of claims.
As far as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. It’s a parental rights law that prohibits discussion of sexual orientation for kids 5-9 years old. That doesn’t seem controversial to me as a father of 2 kids. Both of my kids are teens, so they are free to hear about all sexualities and gender identities. I’m not at all religious, but I there is plenty of evidence that 2 parent households produce better results for children, even if both parents are same sex or other gender identities.
He was also great during COVID about keeping the economy open.
I’m sure there is pretty of debate about the first 3 items, with each side having their own skewed opinions that will be presented as fact. The irrefutable fact is that FL is growing at near record pace. The second fastest growing state based on the last time I looked at the data, and FL is projected to grow another 16-18% over the next 5 years. Most of the growth is coming from the Northeast and Midwest.
It is no longer a cheap place to live, especially in the places that are growing (Miami, Palm Beach, and Tampa/St. Pete), yet people still want to live here and retire here.
