This is stupid. Eight graders who run fast times almost always burn out and get injured.
You might be right with the second part, but it isn't stupid. For fans of the sport it is interesting to follow up and comers. Interesting as they develop, interesting if they burn out, interesting if they make it. Just move along if not your type of thread.

It's hard to generalize. There are various possibilities. Someone running fast in the 8th grade may continue to develop and eventually go on to be a good collegiate runner or in an exceptional case run professionally. Another might develop to a point and then find himself getting injured and never reaching his potential. Another might do well early in his high school career and then lose interest and move on to other activities. Another might perform well in the 8th grade but then level off physically within a few years and never reach an elite level. Simply looking at 8th grade times doesn't tell us where the athletes might be in a few years.

A group of 8th graders helps their team do well when they are seniors
Newbury Park’s 2023 class was really good when they were in 8th grade. As seniors, they helped the team win NXN
It can happen quicker than that. Three (or four) of them helped them win RL when they were juniors. Arguably, the same three (or four) probably would have helped them win the national championship in 2020 when they were Sophomores (had it been held)
