I am 51, been on BP meds for 21 months now. Lisinopril, Ace Inhibitor. No side effects. Running just as well as before. I take 1 10mg pill a day. Good luck.
Hydrochlorothiazide is first line agent. Should not effect running. Beta blockers will 100% increase fatigue and slow HR. ACE inhibitors less likely to cause issues.
ACE inhibitors (lisinopril) are best for runners. B blockers avoid because of the effect on HR. HCTZ/chlorthalidone you want to avoid because of the dehydrating and sodium losing effects. second line choice would be ca channel blocker (amlodipine).
I've been on Atorvastatin 40 mg and Amlodipine Besyslate 5 mg. Since 2019 after having a stroke due to a carotid artery. I've made it back to 90% of my former self I feel no side effects from taking these medications.
Make sure he doesn't prescribe a beta blocker class drug.

I was on BBs, and ran 2:35 when I was 40. A big PB. I found they lowered my heartrate, but cardiac output improved i.e. I felt better running.
If they are available, and your doctor suggests them, try BBs. There is little downside.
And FWIW I switched from Losartan to Telmisartan last year. A very pleasant side effect of Telmisartan is it has an anti-anxiety effect. Apparently Telmisartan interacts with GABA receptors? Not entirely sure, but this is a nice side effect.
There are tons of measurement errors in BP readings and my guess here is you are not factoring in that or your lowered BP after exercise. Use the wrist BO monitor not the traditional arm cuff
My guess is you don’t need medicine at all Check your B12 it’s low

Same. 5mg Lisinopril/day at 60 years old. No side effects.
