Olivia Markezich is so impressive. What a leap she's made this year. Takes the win in 15:33.62
She kind of reminds me of Woody Kincaid. Short choppy stride but sure can accellerate on the last lap.
When the announcer started talking about Bush's kick when they were about 3k or 3500 in i was thinking to myself "did he not watch indoors?" Markezich walked people down in the DMR anchor and the 3k. Bush does have a good kick, but with Markezich right on her shoulder she's the one to talk about

Yeah, it's brilliant how that very-economical-near-shuffle explodes into full flow down the final backstretch. Overall, a lovely race from Markezich: calm, unfussy movement & positioning segueing into a powerful & buoyant close.

Markezich has really had a breakout this year and I think she is just getting started. She is developing quite a kick ferocious kick. 30 second close at ABQ, 65 second here. Can go faster than 15:33 imho. She may be looking to do the Steeple / 5k double at nationals.
Bush usually has one of the strongest kicks in the field, but Markezich seems to be faster now. Last ACCs Bush kicked 65.43 to Tuohy's 69.58, ftw in 15:46. This meet, Markezich ran 65.69 to Bush 69.17 ftw in 15:33 (so off a much faster pace).
For context, both Tuohy and Wayment closed i5000m last year in 66.
Lot of great results in the 5k. Starliper did very well, just tanked the last two laps which can be expected given her injury hiatus. Nice debut from Hartman, Chisholm, and PBs for Engel, Thronson.
ACCs is going to be fun to watch this season for sure.
