I saw someone posted a note about the good media coverage and it got 15 upvotes and no down votes & really? I understand having low expectations but there was no footage of mediocre American runners finishing, that is they cut away from the race and focused cameras on the top female and male finishers like the race was done before the top Americans had even finished. How can that be considered good? (I was watching the free video feed on nyrrc Twitter page so maybe tv coverage was better, but what I was watching was horrible. I would have prefer just watching live tracking which I couldn't seem to find.) Also, at a key part of the race near the end the stopped coverage to interview the top male and female winners in the wheelchair competition. The men's wheelchair race was won by something like 5 minute and they could have at least waited until some American men had finishes before doing that interview.)
I'm not based in the US, I love watching all the major US HM/Marathons but resent the clue-less news-presenter style coverage most the time with quotes like "god I cant imagine even running 5K"
so I'll start by saying sure, this is better than that, but why tf is Chris Chavez from Citius on there? I listen to his podcast and there's a clear difference between someone who knows the elite's name etc vs someone who actually knows what its like competing at a decent level. According to his Strava he's run 18:25, 39-mid and 1:23. From his own admission on his podcast he's not a very good runner - why is this the best person to help the newscast explain what Kiplimo is feeling like at 10M in? I understand this may come off as unnecessary hate, and I've probably not worded it well, but there are hundreds of people they could get who would be able to give better insights during the race, largely down to the fact that often on the Citius podcast they say things that are just factually wrong. So now to have Chris with his 3:06 Marathon experience, just felt like such low hanging fruit.
Kiplimo is maybe the smoothest runner ive ever seen on the roads. Looks like hes jogging as he drops the WR holder at 5/10
Cheptegei has had a rough two last years. Much as I can't choose between the two of them – +256 to the top, always – I want to think that he's motivated and talented enough to match & exceed Kiplimo at top form.
I mean, in the past two years, Cheptegei has won two gold medals (2022 Eugene 10,000m; 2021 Tokyo 5,000m) and a silver medal (2021 Tokyo 5,000m). I wouldn't call that "rough."

Sorry, meant to say 2021 Tokyo 10,000m for the silver medal.
This griping about wheel chair race coverage here and at other similar events is a waste of time. There is likely not a producer here in the states who is not going to be inclusive of all the main divisions, regardless of what they may want, they WILL show the wheelchair, mens and womens and foot, mens and womens. It is here to stay.
I don’t think she was ever in the conversation to win. Seeing Huddle back out is awesome though, I’d absolutely love to see her return to the highest level.
For this race, it’s good they’re doing the Huddle features, now. Hopefully toward the end of the race the focus will be on the leaders.
It was a little strange that the profile played up the running mom angle as much as it did and Huddle said there haven’t been a lot of elite women runners that gave given birth. My sense it is fairly common.
It also said she gave birth 11 months ago. Didn’t Salazar have Kara Goucher back in top form a lot sooner than 11 months after her son was born?
…and Kara has repeatedly said that that was a mistake that cost her in the long run.
He knows it’s a wake up call; that’s why he raced today. Save your angst for another day should he DNF.
Thanks for the thoughts, sincerely. Maybe the tone didn’t come through, but not much angst here. I’m not thinking a wake up call for Rupp, more for us as fans of the sport in general. Just makes me reconsider that Rupp would be a shoe in to make the team for Paris, which prior to this result I would have had him winning the trials.
didnt expect much push back. For a 2:06/59 high guy, barely breaking 65 is a pretty rough result objectively.
It’s "shoo-in” by the way, tho shoe-in seems a good twist in the age of great shoes. However I always expect this from Lets Run: Runner should race more, stop hiding! >> (Runner runs race they like) The runner is toast! Kiplimo has run 57, but only 61 today, must be toast?
