Obviously I’m missing something, but can someone explain how Tyreek Hill was able to compete in a Masters race when he’s 29 years old? I have tried to sift through all the noise about this race both positive and negative, but I can’t find anyone addressing this question.
You add a year for each time you physically assault someone, so Tyreek Hill is really about 320 years old.
I was looking at this the other day and stumbled across this thread. I have been trying to get back into 800 meter shape, 27, due to lack of time for high mileage. I am actually happy about this change, but yes, they will need more than one meet a year. Currently it seems like all the other USATF sanctioned Masters events (XC, 1 Mile, 10 Mile road, etc.) are still 40+.
Honestly, I hope this expands more into the younger crowd. While some might say that 25-29 year olds should compete in Open Meets, the truth is that the vast majority of runners couldn't even hope to make the cuts for that. You have to be like sub 1:50 800, nearly sub 4 minute mile pace for 1500, crazy fast times. So should we never run another 800 again because there's no way we can reach that level? I think this is a good opportunity to keep the sport alive between 25-40 where most people either give up competition forever and get fat or perhaps sacrifice too much time and energy to be true elite only to maybe make it. Plus it's not like there are a bunch of extra purses available for this age group, so the people competing will have to really want to travel and compete.
