Only 800 or 400mh US athlete that should be considered for the relay is Rai Benjamin. As for Bolings prospects in the open 4, he lead off in 45.2 at SECs and 45.3 at NCAAs with little rest from the 200. He also finished 0.04 behind Godwin at the Dr Martin Luther King Invitational. With Kerley and Norman mainly gone from the 400 and Randolph Ross suspended, its the best event for him to make.
Not Trevor Bassitt? He’s run 45.05 indoors, how many Americans can run faster than that over 400m? World outdoor medalist in the hurdles too.
It’s even more absurd that you’re saying Bassitt shouldn’t even be considered and Boling would have a shot. I would put my money on a 47-low hurdler who’s run 45.05 indoors over Boling, yet you don’t even view him as worth “considering”. What would Bassitt have to do to earn your consideration?
I'm in Bangladesh today on a business trip. Nobody is doing anything, they're just wandering around like zombies. Still in shock over the Matthew Boling win at NCAAs.
After you get to those guys, it's the Noah Williams, Bassitt, Trevor Stewart tier.
The reason we're talking about Boling is it seems he has some untapped potential in the 400. If you're "just" a 9.9/19.9 guy, you're not making a US team for years it looks like. Boling if he could get down to 44-mid or faster could get on the relay and maybe even sneak on a 400 team.
White sprinters have always stood a better shot of having success running the 200m. Boling a great example.
LeMaitre broke that 10.00 but look at where he had his most success, yep.....200 meters, The last white USA Olympic cats were Mark Lutz in 76 and Larry Questad in 68, both 200m sprinters,
Hell Olympic gold 200m Italians Livio Burruti and Pietro Mennea,
Mel Patton 1948 200Gold, Bobby Morrow 56 gold, Borzov's 20.00 his best time.
Look at SEC sprinting, other than Boling give me the name of a white SEC sprinter, can ya do it?
HS kid Forest Beatty and the 200m, Google it.
I do see Boling for what he is a stud NCAA 200m, but it will end there.
Thats so interesting. I wonder why Ceccarelli just outclassed the olympic 100 champ in the 60m running a crazy fast 6.47 but can only run 21.60 for the 200? hmmmm

According to Deno, no white athlete can be better at 60m/100m than they are at 200m. Colby Hilton (6.51), Richard Kilby (6.49, 10.01, 20.34), and John Teeters (6.52, 10.00, 20.98), along with Ceccarelli, will never convince Deno that this is not the case. It is physically impossible for a white person to be better at 100m than 200m. The fastest 60m ever was also recorded by an athlete with no African heritage (Su 6.29 split), but don’t tell Deno that his beloved blacks are not the fastest ever.
You guys are underestimating Boling. Again, he and Carl Lewis are the only ones EVER at sub-10, sub 20 and 27' (Lewis at 29') plus. He ran close to a 45 flat on relay 2 years ago. I would love to see him concentrate on the 400 or the long jump. If he jumps 28' he is probably the top 2 athlete of all time.

The issue I see with Boling is that he has not become much better in his time incollege.
His technique is always suspect.
If you watch his excelletn 2012 win, it looks like he is wrestling a bear.
From the thousands of sprinters who have ran the indoor 200 meters this year, MB ran the FASTEST time in the freaking world. Not 2nd, or even 6th, but noone has run faster.
And yet, most of this thread is how he shouldn't run the 200 cause he is too slow while running the 6th fastest indoor 200 of all freaking time. Meaning over the previous 100 thousand or so sprinters have ever run the event, and he is 6th. And he is still in college doing this crap.
To be the 6th of anything notable is freaking insane! I'd kill to be 16th in any event track wise. I'd kill to be top 1000 of anything track wise!
But you are right, no improvement since high school and for sure switch to the 400 fast!!! Brilliant!

That isn't what I was saying at all so get it right, ok?
Pay attention
In sprinting history we have seen more white sprinters do more be more accomplished and successful in the 200m than the 100m. Just look at the world rankings, there it is right there.
Look at Kenderis, Guliyev, LeMaitre, Boling, all more successful at 200m as was old timers Mel Patton, Hal Davis. Livio Burruti, Pietro Mennea, Jerry Bright, Thane Baker, Paul Norman, Mark Lutz, Ben Vaughn, Larry Questad, Kevin Little,Peter Radford, Charlie Thomas, Mike Agostini, Tobias Unger, Frank Emmelman, Dave Jenkins all accomplished more at 200m, and nobody cares about a 60.
I said this back when Boling broke 10.00 in HS........"he will end up as a 200m cat"...so what are we seeing? The guy will do nothing at 100m that is a gurantee.

Agree. He needs to get with MB and TB’s group, the coach would have to completely re-work his form. Or SCR’s coach. Or SAFP’s coach. etc. Heck, ANY real coach.
He has already wasted valuable time. With his early talent, he should be 9.8’s by now, seriously—high 9.8’s, or def around 9.9-flat. Obvious, and sad.
The winner of the 2nd section, in 20.20, looked better overall to me.
And...BAM! Orogot goes a slightly windy 19.60 outdoors in Gainesville.
He ran a very mediocre bend, then destroyed the field in final straight, which is where many great 200's are produced. Shades of ADG...young, with a huge windy time, and composure and confidence down the straight. ADG had a very windy 19.58 in college, iirc.
Boling went 19.92 into a slight headwind in 2022. In my mind this 19.60 (+2.8) is a better performance.
Gotta pay attention this year, these athletes are on fire.
Don’t know about SZ, haven’t checked in a long time. Brutal goes by Deno here, some other guys have been around. Rae’s doing YT, stirring things up, some guys on there posting live.
This is shaping up to be the new golden age! Good to see you’re around.👍
That’s because people can see through inconsistencies between Boling’s outdoor and indoor performances. Boling will often win running in the outside lane in indoor because that’s a true advantage. However, the outdoor events is what defines true greatness. Are we really gonna give Frank Fredericks indoor 200m record more attention than Bolts and Michael Johnson’s records? Lol Help me out

Beat Fanbulleh in the outdoor SEC 200m in 2022 for the overall win.
Second to Fanbulleh in the NCAA outdoor 200m in 2022.
Sub 20.00 outdoors last year.
Has been clearly subpar this outdoor season except early season relay legs
