He's just doing what the SEC has done for decades. The real question is how long will Brosnan stay at UCLA? There's a lot of distance schools that would pay him a lot more than UCLA can/will and give him a lot more scholarships to work with than UCLA will.
I'm just saying that some athletes are committing within 24 hours of entering the portal.
You aren't allowed to talk to athletes at other schools until they've talked to compliance and entered the transfer portal.
So assuming that everybody followed the rules here that would mean some of these athletes, who are very high profile, went through the entire recruiting process in just 24 hours.
Maybe they just took a risk and assumed there was money available? That would seem kind of risky, but hypothetically it's possible.
Not just the SEC, there are Mountain West teams and other Power 5 programs doing this regularly. It's been happening for years, even before the portal existed. The portal at least provides dates for people to try to piece information together but a few years ago it was just the wild west and coaches would reach out to athletes via facebook.
Brosnan did similar things in high school with breaking rules related to recruiting, practice times, meet participation, etc. He said in an interview that he had been turned in to CIF for rules violations 15 times while at NP. All of these things are near impossible to prove, yet it's mostly why he was so disliked by his colleagues in the high school coaching ranks. Sounds like he's heading down the same path at UCLA. His fan boys (and mostly him) constantly post on here that it's jealousy, but it's really a general dislike for people who don't play by the same rules and have shady ethics. There are plenty of really good coaches that don't get the online harassment he does because most don't deserve it like he does.
As with most posts on Letsrun related to Brosnan, I'm sure this will be deleted, yet it's no worse than what is said about many other people and it's not untrue in any way. Delete away I guess.

Please tell us what Mountain West teams and other P5 programs are doing this regularly. Regularly? Sure it happens from time to time but regularly? Really?

Because she has a reputable coach who is maybe 10-15 minutes from the house she grew up in? She could live with her parents.
Manhattan Beach is not 15 minutes from UCLA at any time of the day and at rush hour closer to 1 hour
Eh....I guess Manhattan Beach is about 15 miles or so you are right. But there are surface streets you can take to fight the rush hour. I haven't lived up that way in many years and hardly touched the freeways. But the point is she had the chance to come home to an incredible coach who she more than likely had familiarity with.
I’ve been commenting for months about this. It is common knowledge in D1 coaching circles that he’s under investigation for illegally recruiting Mia Barnett via his wife contacting her while she was still an athlete at Virginia and not on the transfer portal. This is fact. Recruits have testified that he was guaranteeing Barnett was going to transfer there well before any contact was allowed to happen. It’ll be extremely interesting to see how the NCAA handles this. As far as I know, the protocol is to rule her ineligible to compete at the university that committed the violation, release her from her scholarship, and allow her to go elsewhere. Not sure what happens to the coach and program though, but I’m certain they wouldn’t be let off the hook. Maybe a reduction in scholarships, postseason ban, etc.? Somewhere with better knowledge of the rules step in here.
There lies the problem. These girls leave places they don’t feel safe like Duke and UVA and people condemn them. Sounds like they just enter portal and just want to go home. They have reasons but are forced to say nice things or be quiet. Females are never protected. They are so vulnerable. I know in dukes case happens all the time. They shame them.

Texas A&M has lost quite a few athletes over the past couple of years to the portal. Not sure what is happening there but it’s rumored to be related to A&M not supporting their athletes with NIL. The worst was when Texas snatched Tyra Gittens away. She was a big time scorer in SEC and at the national meet.

I wonder if this ruling is issued about 10 mins before dmr next Friday...right at the same time the pa announcer says 'and on anchor for NC state...' what drama.
First the 4x4 debacle and now kicking a star athlete off the DMR. Duke is running it's name into the ground. The coaching seems abysmal, at least from afar .
No I have no idea how he operated at NP. I’m saying he knows/has connections in the CA high school scene. People talk, you ask questions, have people reach out. It’s what he knows.

Any athlete the enters the transfer portal one week before nationals isn’t going to run for that school anymore. Just about every school out there removes people who enter the portal from the roster. If anything, her teammates should be pissed that she couldn’t wait a week for nationals to be over
