Saugus is another team to consider. They were better than some of these other girls teams at Woodbridge.

Clovis North and Saugus are the next two teams in the Woodbridge results that I haven't done yet.

Considering how close Clovis North was to Los Altos at Lowell, it was surprising to see them with only the 18th best team time at Woodbridge. I haven't looked to see if they were missing anyone. I guess I'll do that now.

Whitney ranks very high, and they don't even have a race this year that has been speed rated. I just used last years SJ sections and state meet. However, Whitney was beat by St. Francis this year, another team with no speed ratings. Their #2 was a freshman that I have no concrete data for, so they are better than this ranking shows. Saugus did well at Woodbridge considering a top returning runner hasn't run yet this season.

I have to ask about Newbury Park. Are they just getting on there by name recognition at this point? Or you looking to what they will do later this season? They were 23rd in Sweepstakes and probably another 5 teams were better than them in Rated at Woodbridge.

Newbury Park is officially average

This is just a calculation based on available data, there is no name recognition or other favoritism. In NP's girls case, they have a top 5 that last year recorded best speed ratings of 125, 114, 111, 104, 103. It is true that in their two speed rated races this year (a league meet and Woodbridge) they are significantly lower overall. Once we get past Clovis, definitely Mt Sac, this method of calculation won't make sense any more, and you could just go by the current XC season. This was written during last track season, to try and do XC calculations based on improvement shown during track. Once we are more than halfway through the XC season, what someone did last track season is not very important compared to what they are currently running. At that point, my power rankings would probably be just speed ratings incorporated into my hypothetical merge model.

Buchanan boys team took 18th in the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge, but they bring all of their 1-5 guys back next year. 3 juniors and 2 sophomores. It will help them if they find a front runner though.
Also 3 freshmen in the Blue Varsity B race, and 2 more sophs not in sweepstakes who went sub-15:55.

Anyone know what's going on with Campolindo girls? Dyestat came out with new regional rankings today and they have them ranked 3rd in CA despite not doing really anything special this year.

Checking their results, they won Ed Sias Small Schools race, with Shea Volkmer fastest overall at the meet. They were third at De La Salle out of 32 teams, but a couple key varsity runners didn't run that: Shea Volkmer, Makena Weberski. So far another runner who was going to be key for them, Sloan Pullen, hasn't done a race this season.

Anyone know how to get them to fix the divisions on Milesplit CA? They have teams in the wrong divisions.

I'll liken it to men's college basketball. There are preseason polls, then the basketball games actually start. As long as a team takes care of business, its spot will be safe in the poll. It will even move up as other teams falter.

Campolindo was preseason ranked #5 in California this year. They won the D-III state XC title last year, and ran NXN. They lost their #1 Ellie Buckley this year, but return 5 of their top 7.

Thus far, Campolindo has done what it needs to maintain its position in the polls. But I see your point: other schools have been competing in some major meets. Seemingly they'd get their shot.

Campo is not running Clovis, but they are entered in Rough Rider the following week. Perhaps that will provide some insight on their position.

Maybe it’s been said. Newbury Park really took a dive south this season. They are just awful right now.

Same thing will happen to San Clemente, Ventura, and Oakdale next year. All 3 teams are 5-deep and senior-heavy.

Campo runs the same schedule every year. They never run Clovis, they always run Roughrider. They don't duck anyone. They peak when it counts, hence the hardware in the Trophy case most years

Right. In that case, they didn't have two of their varsity runners. Not due to injuries, as far as I know. If they were injured, yeah, they should drop.
