So far, it's all based on that one meet except for Dylan Jacobs.
How low will the mark go?
Who else will get sub-13:20? Where will the cut off be?
I think that Viktor Kiprop has the potential to take the lead considering his cross-country performances. He might not have been amazing at strategical running in a field full of studs but he was undefeated heading into D1 Nationals so I assume he might have some speed, and he's probably going to be racing Dylan Jacobs at SECs and maybe another meet or two besides that, so I think the two have potential to clear 13:10 in a good race.
Beyond that, I think Cole Sprout and Charlie Hicks can and will get sub 13:15, Yaseem Abdallah can get somewhere in the 13:20 range, Kieran Lumb can get 13:14 or 13:15, Aaron Beninfeld will get around 13:18. He and Lumb were probably positioned to go pro stayed an extra year so he's probably going to go all-out.
I often hear announcers in races calling George Keusche a miler but he's had good xc times and I have a feeling his best potential is in the 3K and 5K distances, I don't believe he's even going to make the mile this year.
Lastly, Ian Shanklin of NC State (who was 9th in a competitive 5K at NCAAs) and Isai Rodrigues who only has 4 or 5 more seconds to shave off his time to get to 13:20 will also get in the field, I think.
I don't think anyone outside V Kiprop or Jacobs will better Ky Robinson's time. I also assume that the Stanford and N Az guys might be content with their times and might not feel the need to reenter races. Nico might want to focus on the 3K at this point.
