Surprised they let him race. Isn't that one of the things experience teaches you that racing injured or sick almost never does anything but end badly. I'd have expected his agent and coach to skip it.
Maybe he should have stayed at NAU enjoyed college for a few years trained with their great runners there. Right now they have runners running faster than him getting a college degree, not just running as a full time pro. He would have time to develop not having constant pressure and cristism no matter what he does. Just food for thought.
He ran 8:39 last week. Amazing time for a 19 year old
I think it's coach Ron. He overtrains his runners. Same thing happened with Webb.
He got sick this week is what his agent told us.
I wouldn't blame Warhurst on Webb. What about Nick Willis? Such a short career.
Exactly. Clearly Warhurst doesn't know what he's doing. Willis only medaled at 2 Olympics and ran sub 4 minute miles consecutively for 20 years straight. What a disaster of a coach 😳

I’m just not impressed by Hobbs Kessler. His fanboys were basically calling him the next Jakob Ingebrigtsen when he ran 7:39 for 3000m a little over a week ago. Right now he’s not even the next Hobbs Kessler, and he’s not coming close to his high school times in the mile. He needs to take a long look in the mirror about how to fix it because what he’s doing now isn’t working. His 10th place today wouldn’t have won the high school race, not even close. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Hobbs Kessler will not make the team for Worlds this year.
I week removed from being our fastest 19 year old ever at 3k. A time that would’ve been #3 all time in the NCAA and 2nd coming into the day.
If he doesn’t make a world’s team, he’s 20. It’s not the end of the world.
You make that prediction as if he were the favorite.

End badly? He’ll recover from being sick and run more races in the near future. You never ran a race while suffering from a cold?
I don't see future greatness for Kessler. Sometimes people who are exceptional in high school just can't get to the next level. That's my take just looking at him. Not a big fan of short-legged middle-distance runners. Whoever is offended by that should just BE offended; I don't care.

Ok. Well why did you listen to his fanboys? C’mon tell us. Why did their opinion hold so much weight that it influenced you to start this post?

Well said..I will be briefed at about 5 today.. I think LOL
Now, let's ask folks..remember Gary Martin? He ran 1:48.x sub four, not once but twice and 8:41.x 3200M. This fall, he was 163rd in Cross, and so far has run 1:50.xx 800M and a 2:53 high 1200 leg...is he done?
I doubt it. Progression is not always linear. On the Webb issue? Not even close to the story on that...I could tell you..but it would not be fair to those involved.
Look, a week plus ago..Kessler ran a time of 7:39 kind of on his own in no mans land for last 1/3 plus of the race..Before that day when a 22 year old Hicks ran 7:36.x ..The CR was 7:38, and Kessler would now be a 19 turning 20 soph. I still think things are going well.
That 7:39 , showed me, that while yesterday was a bad result, that he surely was way more fit than when he ran 2:20 and 3:57 in essentially TT's.
By the way Ron also trained Brannen, who made multiple Canadian teams and ran 3:34.x and 2:16.x Indoors and Kevin Sullivan to 3:31.x and 3:50.x mile and that was a while ago and Mason Ferlic to an Olympic birth..many U.S. Coaches wish they had that resume. I wouldn't worry about Ron,his coaching or WTF anyone thinks, really. LOL.
People will say what they will, and are entitled. We shall see, it's a little early to give up on anyone that young.
Are people bashing and giving up on Gary Martin? I wouldn't do that quite yet either.
Exactly. Best post I've seen. Kessler is under a higher level of scrutiny because:
A. He hasn't, isn't, and doesn't plan to participate n the NCAA. You can be an irrelevant also-ran like Thompson (DFL in his most important race last year, hasn't finished one this year) and not be constantly criticized as long as you did the whole college thing. That's considered the right way by most of you. Avoiding it didn't hurt Haile.
B. The contract he took was with adidas. More importantly, in the court of public opinion, not with Nike. Look at all the smack-talk about Ches not going with Nike, and/or specifically with BTC (ala Thompson). I doubt anyone has ever counted the number of threads on that. What Hobbs did is considered 'pulling a Drew' by many of you. Both of those guys are adidas-shod and considered train wrecks according to various threads. Guys like Derrick and Fernandez (never worn a non-Nike shoe and never did much beyond their 20th birthdays) are not.

I guarantee you that Hobbs doesn't care in the least about anything you posted. He doesn't care if you don't care, trust me.
