NC State has a heptathlete that has run 56 low this season. Or move up a 200 runner. My concern is the 1200 leg - I thought they had Mareno but apparently she is injured and Starliper isn’t back either. Bush would have to run the 800 leg - they don’t have anyone else that could run under 2:05.
3:16 leadoff? Stanford XC Instagram account claimed the other day that Cranny 3:18.2 was the fastest ever in the NCAA. So did that just get crushed tonight, or is that stat off?
Is this even a legit record? They got paced by someone who's not even part of the race?
This record should not count because they were paced by an illegal rabbit. You can't have a team start without a baton. That team also never had 3 others on it, you aren't allowed to start a relay with only one athlete.
The 1200 leg single handedly got them the record because the other legs were nothing outstanding.
Jonathan Gault saw it live. He's trying to interview some of them now. 2nd place was 10:59.09.
The names on the website are wrong. Here the splits.
3:16.24 - Sophie O'Sullivan 54.21- Marlena Preigh (5her college pb is 59.07 but she ran 56.32 in HS in 2019) 2:01.93 - Carley Thomas (Her pb is 2:02.75) 4:34.26 - Anna Gibson (Her mile pb is 4:32.34)
Gibson has now run 3 indoor 'miles', sub 4:35, very consistent and a lock to qual indoor w/4:31 mark.
I'm getting less enthused about NC st's dmr. We'll see Chmiel (my pred 8:55 3k) and Bush (4:33 mile pred latching on to Tyynismaa) tomorrow to get a fitness read, but they still appear to be missing a 400 leg.
I still think now we'll still see an 'a' team at either jdl dmr meet or acc, but probably not both. Then most likely they put in a 'b' team at NCAA, and give Bush, Chmiel and Tuohy their optimal shot at individual placing and more teammates a chance to compete.

Chmiel can run 3:20ish. She's run several 3:35-3:39 1600s over the yrs. As a tough competitor getting an even start, she would keep them in the race. If nothing else Chmiel/Tuohy would be happy W/ school and acc records.

Alli Cash, who is a post collegiate who trains with UW coach Maurica Powell, was the pacer and did not have a baton. The men’s race at BU also had a pacer without a baton. I was surprised that was allowed but I’ll admit I don’t know the rule.

O'Sullivan's lead-off was, by far, the fastest 1200 leg every run by a collegiate woman . . . and 3rd all-time behind (pros) Heather McLean's 3:14.92 and Ella Donagu's 3:16.02 from last year's consecutive WR races:
Heather MacLean (3:14.92), Kendall Ellis (52.05), high schooler Roisin Willis (2:03.30), and Elle Purrier St. Pierre (4:23.55) crushed the indoor record and ran faster than the outdoor record, too. *MB: NB Women's DMR 10:33.8...
However, Thomas' 800 was the not only the 2nd fastest collegiate split ever, it ties (pro) Brenda Martinez for the 2nd fastest split in world history, indoors or out:

Here is the race video . . . yes, the rabbit ran w/o a baton . . . have to presume WA coaches checked the legality of this . . . at least they better have . . . they will be rather embarrassed if the result is nullified . . . sure hope not:
The Huskies ran 10:46.62 to better the mark set by Oregon in 2017. Website: http://flosports.link/3p20lTjSubscribe: http://flosports.link/3p4YLQpGet the FloS...
I suspect they went to BU because Dempsey is not record-legal. It would be quite a downer if the pacer voided it.
In the interview they said they were not really going for the record just a good qualifying time. O'sullivan said she had never run on a baked 200m track before.

Maybe Carley Thomas's indoor pb is 2:02.75, I'm not sure, but she ran 2:01.01 outdoors back in 2019 before being injured really badly, which took her a few years to recover from. She is very talented.
