Yared Nuguse is making half of what he could be making. Why?
Because instead of taking the money when it was offered, he decided to stay with his friends(who are probably not his friends anymore) at Notre Dame.
Then he got hurt and his stock fell .
This story is very common in NFL and NBA. Always take the money the moment it is offered. Because money isn’t going to wait for you to get over injuries.
I know it was Covid but she still competed. It would be different if they did not contest the NCAA championships like basketball did. The players/teams did not have a tournament. They deserve to play another year so they can compete four years. It basically was like a redshirt year. But XC competed and held its championship. Tuohy has already run three times and neither she nor any other athlete should be allowed in the NCAA Champs a fifth time. That is NOT a three-peat. Sally Kipyego competed a three-peat. Only Amy Skieresz can challenge Kipyego as the greatest XC runner in NCAA history.
That makes no sense whatsoever. Winning 3 times is a 3 peat. That is literally what it means.
Just because you don't like the covid eligibility rules about running a fifth time is beside the point. Did the XC teams get a real championship build up and experience for the 2020 season? No, they didn't. They ran it in March 2021. Sounds like you are bitter about covid eligibility.
Tuohy also has the team championship. They already won 2 times, so a 3 peat there would be special.
I don't really know what you're arguing. Even if the covid redshirt didn't exist (and I doubt that Touhy will stick around to use hers in the 2024-2025 season), an athlete still typically gets four seasons of cross country. Touhy is currently in her third year of college, and has run at three NCAA cross championships. If there had never been a pandemic, she still would have one more season (her fourth) remaining. This gives her team the opportunity to three-peat in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons (21, 22, 23).
Take it up with the NCAA. It applies to all runners, not just Tuohy. Plenty of athletes are taking advantage of their 5th season of eligibility because of Covid.

Yeah. Remember when a 6th-year senior beat Tuohy by less than a second in the 5k indoors? If not for the covid rule, Tuohy would have been a:
Indoor 5000m champion, Outdoor 5000m champion and Cross Country Champion
Covid rule sucks for younger athletes, but will Tuohy use it in 2024-2025? I don't think so, but she sure got the shorter end of it when she was a freshman getting beat by someone who's supposed to be a pro runner already.
Okay. But NC State didn't win her freshman year anyway, so I'm not sure why the outcome of the 2020* race is relevant.
I suppose when someone earlier in the thread mentioned Tuohy staying to "get the threepeat" I interpreted it as meaning staying for the 2023 season and helping win three team titles, rather than three individual titles, since this thread began with a discussion of her going pro after this school year ends. I think there's a good chance she contributes to three team titles (in four years, thus making the discussion of extra covid eligibility irrelevant), but I think it's very unlikely that she'll still be competing in fall of 2024 for the possibility of an individual three-peat.
Nothing against her but wasn't Kipyego 21 her sophomore year?
I think she was 23. She was 26 her senior year. Great runner though
Kipyego was NOT 26 as a senior. She was 20 when she won it as a sophomore, 21 as a junior, and 22 as a senior. Her birthday is about a month after the NCAA champs so even factoring that in she would be 20yr11mo as a sophomore, 21yr11mo as a junior, and 22ys11mo as a senior. This is no different than a runner who took a redshirt year. Some of them are actually 23 during the XC season.
