At 18 flat fitness vaporflies will have minimal effect.
If it was a half or marathon then the marginal gains would add up, but at most you are shaving off mere seconds due to the weight alone.

Yes. Just tested the SC Pacer. You get the pop from the carbon plate but in a lower profile ride. I do wish it were an ounce or so lighter, but the ride is quick. I prefer it to the Takumi Sen.

I prefer the flat road shoes like the Mizuno Eikenden instead of the big bouncy shoes. I want to feel the road but it is getting harder and harder to find those.
Anyone have a suggestion for racing flats?
You might prefer them, but they aren't faster (which is what the OP asked for).
Vaporfly is the best shoe I have ever raced in at any distance 5km and up.
The Saucony EndorphinPro or Speed is great if you are trying to save money.
p.s. Neither of them has great traction if the ground is really wet though. I did a rainy speed workout in the Sauconys today and was slippin' and slidin' out there!

Sometimes the money doesn't really matter that much. Maybe he is comparing the financial outlay of running to that of golf or cycling and figures "I should just get the lightest, fastest, best shoe with the most pop ever made." If he only races in it, it will last quite a while.
p.s. I run a lot of my speedwork in just under 6 minute pace (I am old) and even then, the Vaporfly runs are noticeably faster than runs I do in other shoes. Just a fact.

They have more impact at 18 minute fitness than they do for faster runners. The absolute time improvement is more and the vaporfly will have more benefit for a runner with less than perfect form.
