I think a very real possibility we'll see three guys under 4 this weekend in the same race (Connor, Simeon, and Aaron). The following weekend at Millrose, wouldn't be surprised if Connor runs 3:55 if it's paced correctly.
His workouts seem way above how he has raced recently, could be pushing the envelope too much in workout sessions. Also, avoiding running in conditions that make you tougher outside to run on a boost treadmill is ultimately going to make an athlete soft in difficult situations. Hoping he races well because his workouts have been ridiculous for a kid his age, BUT workouts mean nothing when you lose to people your age who are doing half the mileage and less "impressive" workout sessions.
Thanks for the feedback. No need to click on these threads then. 100s of people post every day and no one is making you click on mine.
Why wouldn’t I let people know that Connor did a podcast ahead of a massive mile on Saturday? I’m not asking people to listen (this is why I’ll say listen if “you are interested”), the point is to generate interest around this event and tell people where they can listen to a preview with a top athlete.

I think CB should start doing his talking on the track. He said in an article last fall that we would win a national XC title and a couple of weeks ago announced he was going for the 2 mile HS indoor record. Neither happened.

Wow, that’s pretty significant. Definitely sub 4 shape. His recent 2 mile was actually much more impressive than when just looking at the results. Guy reportedly fell off hard the last 200m after going out in 4:15.
I ran 4:01 and never ran workouts anywhere near this hard. 4 mile tempos at 5:00, 800s in 2:15-2:20, etc. basic simple stuff.
guy is way over his skis for 3:59.
Tbf he’s a current 3:58 guy aiming for probably 3:53 outdoors. I agree though, 10 miles at 4:59 pace is a solid tempo workout for a low-13:00s 5k guy. A miler would have to be around 3:50 or better for that to be appropriate (and even then it’s a lot of volume).

"My marathon performance was actually even more impressive than it looked - I ran the first half too hard and ended up with a major positive split."

He’s an excellent athlete, but I do wonder if he’s going a bit too hard for Strava. The “1k in 2:26” actually 2:28 but he converted it bc of the track) comment and hard workouts at 94% of body weight to get faster splits make me believe that he’s too focused on running impressive workouts
This is a running website. Podcast is about a highly successful high school runner. Why the negativity?
Thanks the the OP for posting.
+1
OP gets flack for some combo of giving Houlihan an easy platform for lying about her drug ban, and probably jealousy of a kid interviewing these athletes. I say good on this kid for providing good running related content - keep it up.
It sounds like Burns might be overcooking workouts, but he’s got plenty of time to figure it out. For one, it’s possible he breaks through sometime this year and races to the level of his training. If he doesn’t, we know he’ll be ready for the rigors of college training, and if a coach can rein him in, the benefits of his current workload could catch up with him.
