I think the athletic department did their investigation and moved on. Since the former athlete didn’t get the result they wanted it was time to go to the press and get the public to put pressure on the university.
Eating disorders are a real problem in the sport but they aren’t going anywhere no matter who the coach is. At the end of the day body composition is a part of performance. So is talent. You can’t expect to join a program like CU with future olympians and think it’s going to be a super easy environment. Go join Alabama football and see if anyone gives you a shred of sympathy when they expect you to change your bday to be a better player.
I love how all these elitist come out and have to tell "their truth" and be all relevant and all... Wetmore gave no thoughts about 99% of these athletes. Maybe Ritzenhein. Even Kara he knew was a bad apple and she admits to having her own eating issues during college. Did Wetmore cause it? probably to her then but not now...
While running for Wetmore in college, Kara had an eating disorder. Post college, she spent a lot of time injured before regaining form 5 years afterwards.
They have every right to state their opinion, but the whole "he was nice to meeeeee" thing shouldn't have any bearing on an open investigation.
Why would the experience of numerous athletes not have an impact on the judgement of Wetmore’s coaching practices?
Also to those who said top level athletes’ opinions shouldn’t count...I would expect to see more pressure to maintain a certain weight in this group. For every individual and team Champion Wetmore has its recognition and a cash bonus.
Seems to me if the people Wetmore was paid for(You don’t stay employed based on the depth of your B-team) reflect positive experiences then that’s a very important set of data points.
There are a few top level athletes on that list, but mostly average athletes. The top level athletes NOT on the list out-number the the ones who are on it.
True, the world does not revolve around her but why is she the only one singled out? Not Emma or Slattery? They all wrote statements. Funny how she got thrashed but no one else is getting the same hate.
Completely fair. And Emma took the route of least resistance posting in her story and not on her page for comments. others posted it on their instagrams so you can read it here, if you didn't get a chance to.
Notice nary a peep from Billy Nelson on this. He’s the one accomplished alumni of that program who uniquely would know better than everyone else about all CU runners going back years and years. It’s not like he isn’t on SM and couldn’t have quickly responded with support. His silence on this is deafening. Plus he GTFO of Dodge quickly and quietly.
Somehow your post makes me believe that you were in support of Salazar because Rupp and Hasay stood by him so he couldn't be abusive!
You're talking about KG's post, yes? Because my post in fact stated something entirely different.
No I'm saying your reaction to KG's post, and how much you dislike her, leads me to believe you didn't have the same reaction to athletes under Salazar speaking out in support of him.

Then you should read more closely. I generally like Kara, as already stated, and disagree with her choice here as its spirit squarely contradicts what she hopes to convey in her tell-all book coming out in March about her experience with NOP. Her critics probably would say that we should believe the NOP success stories who are unflinchingly uncritical like Rupp and Hasay, not the one who had a falling out and left the program unhappy because of some presumed deficiency. I've been clearly stating that accusers should be heard, whether it's Kara with respect to NOP or the former CU runner with respect to Wetmore's program. The athletes publicly standing by Wetmore in that Instagram post had fine experiences at CU under Wetmore, but that doesn't erase or change someone else's bad experience even if Wetmore didn't truly intend for that to happen. The responses to her post on Instagram overwhelmingly called out her lack of integrity on this, which is why she deleted it.
"Sorry, but her SM crusade is inappropriate, incredibly hypocritical, and honestly her bias is obvious in that she only supports whatever serves her narrow, present circumstances."
Sorry for the janky text. I couldn't figure out any other way to share.
Thanks for sharing. Some powerful names coming out in his support. I didn't run there, but I know a number of the people on that list and had some friends and family who worked or coached in the program. I have never heard anything bad about the man or the program, other than that he lives and breathes the sport and genuinely cares about his athletes.
Sorry dude, I don’t know you from Adam but you’re as far outside the CU program as you are from Pluto. I know several prominent alumni who aren’t on the list in that Instagram campaign and have little or nothing positive to say about Wetmore’s program in honest moments. They essentially felt run over and pushed aside by the Buff machine. He’s obviously a brilliant coach but then I’ve also heard similar about McDonnell.
I tended to have pretty neutral to positive impressions of both Kara and Wetmore. I also tended to think Kara got targeted uniquely and unfairly by men on this board over minor things.
It's your typical woke CU witch hunt. Basically, a JV level player is trying to take down the entire program because they couldn't cut it.
Don't mean 2b mean here. A 5:20 miler is hardly JV at a D1 level. This coach first and foremost with best intentions tries the best he can to keep his runners healthy, because the training is rigorous as is the academics. This program as with any other does not benefit if any of your runners are injured. That includes proper nutrition and sleep hygiene. As with any D1 elite program YOU EARN the right to represent nothing is given to you.
Yeah, I'll say that Kara posting this is different from the others because she has really used her platform to call out abuse and has a book coming out soon which is presumably about her abusive coaches.
That's why she was hit the hardest in the IG comments. Also, generally speaking I wasn't a fan of the "no one asked us" mentality, like why would any investigators ask any of you for your opinion? You can give it, but don't lament them not calling you when you weren't there between 2017-2019.

And who exactly assigned these, "investigators" ??

Oh, and by the way.....we're criticizing a cross country team???....meanwhile football is creating CTE and admitting it.. And nothing.....nothing is done about it.
If you develop an eating disorder in college you have known to blame but yourself no matter what the coach, your teammates, or anyone else that does or says.
By the time you're in college you're an adult, old enough to pick up a weapon and go to war, you should be capable of making your own nutrition decisions. If you aren't you deserve anything bad that happens to you.
