A good way to gauge happiness is to look at human rights of it's citizens. Take a look at the human rights of authoritarian governments and the real time examples of Russia, Hungary, Turkey, North Korea, Saudia Arabia, etc, etc. Too many countries to count. It is not a theory. It is not ancient history. You can see it in today. A country can transition very quickly from a free democracy to Authoritarian in a blink of an eye. I personally believed that the US had checks and balances that would prevent the destruction of institutions. But with Trump, he exposed that the US has no checks and balances. There are no saviors or heros that can step in and check the power of a determined Authoritarian that his given too much power. Trump exposed the feebleness of the US system (Congress, Voters, Law institutions) to check power. There are others that viewed Trumps ability to easily do this. And they desire to move the country that way too. And because of that Democracy is still under threat in the US.
This is 100% true…but in the opposite direction. Biden is an authoritarian. Because of him, he forced 80 million Americans to get vaccinated or lose their job. This is something that is now proven to have more detrimental side effects than health benefits.
1.) He overstepped his power by trying to force those rules onto everyone without congressional approval.
2.) He overstepped his power by declaring that he could forgive student loan debt.
3.) He is bringing us closer to World War III over border disputes that are not relevant to us.
4.) He encourages mass illegal immigration.
5.) Worst of all, he keeps the country in a constant state of fear by declaring everything an emergency, and when in an emergency, there are more powers granted to the executive branch.
you should probably start hanging out with more positive people. Even our local crank, took down his Let's Go Brandon flag and replaced it with the ol' gadsden flag
Nothing positive about inflation, and violence and homelessness or crime.
How many wars are we in? And pushing Russia and China
How much money has been printed?
How bad has this Covid response been? Kids out of school for a year. Heavy coercion to inject and untested experimental drug. Fear, fear, fear.

I stopped at this lie. How far did everyone else make it?
Disagree with the premise that people in the US saw Biden as some great savior. Bernie was the big radical change agent candidate. Biden was just the guy who could beat Trump and return things to normal. Everyone knew that Biden is a centrist and wasn't going to make any radical changes like M4A or a Green New Deal.
Also disagree with the claim that the US is in decline. The US economy has been very resilient post pandemic. The job market remains strong and GDP was up 2.9 in the last quarter. Inflation is getting under control. The Fed has started easing its interest rate interventions. The Western states are getting a reprieve from the drought with a record snow pack that will help replenish desperately low reservoirs.
Internationally, the US has managed to hold together a strong coalition against Russia. Most believed that the EU would fracture over economic concerns due to winter energy shortages (that never happened). That did not happen. To the contrary, EU countries are following the US lead in providing tanks and advanced missile defense systems to Ukraine. And the EU and the US successfully moved ahead with a price cap on RU oil that has caused RU to incur huge budget deficits with its central bank burning through its foreign reserves.
And if you turn off social media and FoxNews, life in the US for most people is pretty good these days. The US still has a number of intractable problems like housing, health care and the environment. But people have jobs and the US economy dodged a big bullet with inflation coming down while economic growth has remained strong.
Crime in the US has not gotten worse. In fact the rate of property crime in the US has been on a steady decline for the past two decades. Murder rates have edged up in some jurisdictions, but the US is awash in guns, which isn't going to change any time soon. And this is why right wingers have to go to such extremes to find something to freak out about. They run all over to find one drag queen story time in a city of millions and lose their sh%t over something that 99.99% of the population did not know even existed.
Homicides jumped by 30% in 2020. Formerly safe areas are experiencing a lot of crime. I used to live in Portland, and homicides have jumped 400% since 2016 - they disbanded the dang task force because of “racism” allegations due to the disproportionate impact on certain groups and crime immediately jumped. Just look at stores that have put everything in cages
Pardon me, but as a Brit from the Lake District in Windermere, I can’t help but take notice of the problems swallowing America. I’ve spoken candidly with dozens of American tourists, but not one could provide any helpful insight. I am simply wondering how any American, having lived through the past few years, can objectively assess the current state of affairs in America and not arrive at the conclusion that this is a country in decline. Many Americans touted the Biden-Harris ticket as the path to the promise land, but, from where I’m sitting, I haven’t witnessed or heard of any progress in the way of living standards, quality of life, criminal activity, consumer confidence, et cetera. From all accounts, it appears as though Americans are struggling, cities are rife with thievery and rising crime, and the overall standard of living is heading sharply lower. Even despite this, Americans are spending their time and energy on gender pronouns. From a purely objective point of view, I don’t see any evidence of true progress under the current administration. I have no partisan affiliations in America, but I can’t help but take notice of what’s happening on the other side of the pond: that a lot of Americans have been duped into accepting a decrepit old man as their president; that they shouted down their opponents while holding up their candidate as their savior; and that, from all appearances, life in America has only gotten worse. Now, it stands to reason that (1) the activists overestimate the presidency, and thus placed too much blame on the previous administration; or (2) their savior has failed them. These are my thoughts, and I submit them most respectfully. Cheers!
Oh yes I do declare gavnah. If you dun lak' MURICA, you can GIT OUTTTT

I know you, the cult of the right has to spend every waking hour mad to sustain itself. Inflation is improving (we had a pandemic), "violence" is bad but I think you guys are happy to assault the gov't when your guy doesn't win-so check your own people, homelessness sucks so maybe all the gov't services the repubs cut were valuable, and crime in improving.
Historically, the Obama-Trump years with low unemployment and low inflation are an aberration. And if you have to choose one, inflation is far preferable. Yeah things are more expensive but it's really nothing compared with the lasting scars from long-term unemployment.
