Hassan was the world record holder in the 10 and still her pr is only a few seconds off the pace. She’s a past world champion and is the reigning Olympic champion. Hard to argue that she’s better at 5000 than 10000. She’s run a 1:05 half way back in 2018. Do we really know her top distance as a world class runner? Yes, her form is not a thing of beauty, but neither is Obir’s. If Hassan is serious about this run and has been healthy enough to put in the training, she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with on the roads. If the conditions are good, she runs 2:17 in this debut and competes for the podium.
Also want to say that Hassan is such a baller! Choosing to debut in London with the stacked field. You’d think she might choose a 2nd tier race or even a major with a thinner field, like Tokyo. No, she’s going right in to the belly of the beast. ...
Couldn't agree more ! But we knew that when she did the triple at the Olympics.
But she had a hard time recovering from that triple and she put on some weight.
I don't know if she has the mental strength to dedicate herself 100% to running.

From her pool interview and JG’s article it does not sound like she’s doing a full and traditional marathon training block. Still, I say she beats both top Americans and runs faster than the AR time.
On a personal note, I think Sifan is done with the Netherlands and doesn't intend to reside there again. The Dutch benefited from her best years but her ties there were tenuous as she never achieved fluency in the language. If only the US was as generous with its' citizenships.

She got married in early 2022 and took a few months off. I think it's a fair question whether she can get back to her 2021 form.
Yea, I agree I feel like its not yet her time for the marathon. She can still do all sorts of damage in the olympics on track Maybe there is something we dont know about? Injury not tolerating speed work or something. Isnt she like late 20s?
She’s 30. No chance she’ll ever beat Kipyegon, so I think her 1500 career is over now. She can run in London and still be ready to race Gidey et al in the 5000/ 10000 this summer. Anyway, she has won global golds in the track distance races, so maybe it’s time for a new challenge.
Shouldnt you wait til Kipyegon has run as fast as Hassan in the mile, 5k and 10k to say she cant beat Kipyegon ever? World record holders usually are not too intimidated. I think we were all surprised by her drop off post Tokyo, but watching her run away from the field time after time leading up to tokyo, Im not ready to count her out at the 15. Nobody is running with them in the 15 up to tokyo.

I didn’t see anything from Hassan in 2021 or after, or anybody else for that matter, that suggests that they can beat Kipyegon in the 1500. Kipyegon dominates the slow tactical races, she dominates the fast races, if she returns in 2023 in the form of last year, she’s unbeatable and everybody else is racing for 2nd. Yes, a fit Hassan is a strong candidate to be #2. In the 5 and 10, it’s a different story. If Hassan returns to form she will be very hard to beat. She’s like Jakob in the 5000, too fit to be dropped and WAY too fast at the close to be beaten. She’s 30, so you never know if her age will begin to factor in, but 2021 Hassan will never lose a track race to Gidey.

I guess every year all bets are off until people start racing. Based on last year, does anybody think Kipyegon is going to lose any race that matters? The only question is whether or not she’ll finally break the 1500 world record. In the 5 and 10, things are far more open. Will Hassan be back to form? Will Niyonsaba be allowed to compete? Will Gidey’s closing speed continue to improve? etc., etc. Hassan is not going to win the London marathon, but if she’s fit enough to run 2:18 or 2:19 this spring, I would not bet against her to win the 5 or 10 or both at worlds. That evidence of her return of strength and her top end speed will be hard to handle.
That's it. It's over. That's okay. No elite 1500m specialist goes to Marathon and ever return to the track as an elite 1500m runner.
Normally true but I think Hissan just likes to challenge herself and do different things. She does have some weird form issues I guess it could hurt some over the distance but I wouldn't bet against her.
