Completely forgot that Cass Elliott, who is ranked number 4 on the D1 TFRRS list in the 800 and broke Izaic Yorks' school record in that event, is a two-time NCAA qualifier and Olympic Trials qualifier in the 400 hurdles. They've also got two guys who are solid long hurdlers behind Elliott. Jeshua Anderson, the 3-time NCAA champ in the 400H at WSU is coaching the hurdlers & sprinters.
Yes, Elliot is great. The point I make is that I watched this meet live. Not 1 entrant in the 60 or 200 and I think they had maybe 2 on the women's side. How is that possible? Not even walk ons? They can't even field a 4x1 team.
The WA prep sprinters are good DESPITE the climate. If they are really top tier, they will go South to a college without the horrendous spring weather for both meets and training.
Dempsey is great but not a panacea.Sprinters need dopamine and relaxation, which come with sunny warm weather. They are a very different animal than distance guys.
NO. They just got embarrassed at NCAA XC with a 14th place finish. They weren't even the top team from Washington (Gonzaga finished 13th).
Having good milers but being unable to get them placing well in cross country hurts his reputation as a coach. Most of the team are transfers or 5th/6th/7th years (or both).
you made an important point - most of his talent transferred in and are currently much older than 99% of the NCAA.
Fay - sub 4 in college in Ireland before transferring to UW. is turning 25 this year
Ellis - grad transer, Sub 4 at Princeton during undergrad (3:37 1500)
Lumb - Ran 3:38, 7:45, and 13:24 at Univ of British Columbia before going to UW for grad school. Is also turning 25 this year.
Ahl - grad transfer from Simon Fraser - sub 4 prior to UW, turning 24 next month
Aidan Ryan - grad transfer - 3:56 mile prior to UW
Trippas - not racing yet but was an Olympian while at princeton in steeplechase
Waskom - listed as soph but actually should be a senior academically, graduated high school in 2019
Nathan Green - 4:00 mile in high school, probably sub 4 in HS if not for covid
Daschbach - broke 4 in high school. is not running well at UW

So you are blaming Powell for covid and transfer policies?
