Hi, I’m a 14 year old and have a current time of 4:35 for the 1500m, 4:47 for the mile, and 2:14 for the 800. I got these times last year as a 13 year old, and am wondering for some training advice.
My winter/fall season training so far has been like this:
A couple runs when I have time after school for the fall, didn’t do much base training sadly. During around late November and December, I started doing hard interval workouts like 8x400, 16x200 every Monday and Wednesday. I recover other days and a occasional tempo. My lowest mileage has been around 15 miles per week, and recently it has risen to about 26 miles per week. I am being careful not to overtrain, but I don’t want to peak my performances to early. (Races in may and June) I have barely done any base training other than the easy days inbetween the hard interval sessions occasionally.
I heard that doing mostly only speed workouts like interval sessions early season is bad and can lead to burning out. Should I just change my schedule and do long base runs and the occasional threshold and hill sprints instead for a while? If so, when should I transition back to speed training or any other type of training?
