I think that you are quite correct. In the book “Exercised”, Lieberman himself states that the Tarahumara do their legendary long runs at about ten minute per mile pace, stopping to kick the “ball” ( that is part of the process) further along the trail.
Any indigenous running that occurs is generally done at a leisurely pace, no faster than nine minute miles, unless they are being chased by something, or are chasing.
Can you imagine suggesting to an indigenous person that their hunting ability would be more efficient if they had included more tempo running and a few timed intervals into their daily practice?
