Is a good book for improve level?
its great for understanding current endurance physiology concepts. Not sure about 'improve level'
It’s a good introduction to scientific training, but I was disappointed that Skiba didn’t make the mathematics more prevalent in the book.
I would have like to see him lay out an example training block, with associate testing, training, and interventions.
I wanted a heavier focus on the Bannister IR model and CP.
I like that he didn’t include plans.
It’s a good reference, but I wanted more.
He includes more than enough details to get started, and if you want to know more there's hundreds of footnotes. For example, the linked omni-domain power-duration article dives into pages of math that really would be taking away from the rest of the approachability of the main book. Some more running content, double thresholds and lactate testing would be nice but maybe in a future book.
Cool book but the truth is that nobody trains like this.
Yeah definitely not with the CS calculations and battery stuff for sure, more helpful for triathletes, but the advice/graphs on periodization and differing intensities throughout the season was really helpful. Good reference to have on hand writing training plans. The building the house idea tracks with what the likes of Woody and Jakob are doing anyway
Sure, there are details, but the book is too basic. I feel like he dumbed down the information too much and I’ve read everything he put in the book from his other resources.
Care to elaborate?
How hard is it to test, train, and then test again?
I mean, that’s most people problem. They have zero idea how to characterize themselves as athletes and then approach training in a deliberate manner.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
