This is what would happen in every pro workout if their coach was capable of keeping up with them at all. How many times has there been a coach this fit? The constant encouragement may get annoying at some point, but you cannot argue with the current results. Monson just ran 4:26.0 1600 (if they had the right distance from that lane) at a mile high, which converts to about 4:22 for the mile at sea level.
All Aden athletes are non applicable to any discussion regarding training, workouts, or racing. Glad he’s out of the sport; and if you actually love athletics, you should be as well.
Soulimans was a beast. If you get all hung up on “dopers are ruining the sport” then you just shouldn’t be watching.
Not sure this applies to Aden athletes. I like to give the benefit of the doubt in athletics for this reason - like I'm willing to look past Shelby's ban for other Bowerman athletes since it's possible no other Bowerman athletes were doping and she's a lone wolf in it. Aden was literally caught in a hotel room with syringes pre-filled with EPO and several of his athletes have been directly involved (Makhloufi caught with syringes filled with EPO, David Torrence saying he was given drugs by Aden, etc). Maybe I'm naive about Bowerman and other groups, but Aden's so bad even I can't look past it.
This one was funny cuz because it made me ponder if Ritz should not just run the whole thing on an inner lane...
My instinct was to think 4:26 is more impressive than 3:57. However, now that I think about it the best in the World can run 3:45.0 in the mile (converted), 2nd and 3rd 3:46.0 or a smidge faster. Women's-wise it probably goes 4:11-4:13-4:14 with Kipyegon, Tsegay and Muir/Hassan. So the times hit are pretty equivalent, but Monson being a 5K-10K athlete (albeit with great range) is a nice aspect.

I think the current top 3/4 women have taken it to the next level. They can all run 11+ seconds faster than 4:26. 3:54 is a time that Jakob may be able to better by 9 seconds. I don’t think on a % basis it lines up, 4:26 is no longer that good.

I got it from the IAAF calculator, which equates W3:48 with M3:26 for 1500, which seems accurate.
I am impressed....05/23/2021 4:46pm EDT3 years ago
The rest of the workout was:2X600 in 1:25.2 and 1:23.23X400 in 57.2, 59.4 and 54.8July 10, 2006After 3 easy days he ran 12:51.98 for 5000, narrowly losing to KB, on July 14.
Ah yes, a coach actively yelling out splits and supporting his athletes.
What a punchable offense.
Would you want your coach talking at you continuously, non-stop? Splits are fine. But non-stop encouragement is seriously distracting. Maddening really.
3:57 1600 and Ritz is gibbering every.single.second.
Well when you’re recording the whole thing for social media then you have to look impressive as a coach.
If you have 3200/1600 kids with no races on the schedule in the next few weeks, it would be a good workout imo.
None of the runners involved in the workout are considering competing over 1600 or 3200. Different guys will be in different meets and events, but all their competitions will consist of 1500, mile, 3000, or 5000, although I'd like to see someone run the rarely contested 2 mile somewhere.

Thanks genius. He was replying to a HS coach asking if this workout could be used at the HS level, where they do in fact run the 1600/3200
