Good bad or indifferent?
Good bad or indifferent?
I heard that it is good for runners and I know a fast guy who does it (top uk runner).
He does it as part of a run circuit, 800 meter lap, then push ups & jump rope etc next lap...
I myself found that it overloads my calves (makes them crazy thight), same as calv raises, but I am masters age group runner and never won anything serious :)
Try to incorporate it and see if you get faster/ it does not interfere with training....
I'm a master's age runner and well into recovery from an injury. My experience may not translate well to younger or faster runners.
With that said, I do jump rope at least a couple of times per week. A little bit goes a long ways, and 15 minutes is more than enough, and even 10 minutes starts becoming noticeable.
OP asked about long distance running in particular, and i've always considered it most beneficial for the shorter distances - like mile and less in particular.
Mixing in some variety is key, and throw in sets of single leg work, scissors jump rope, and jump rope with jogging step.
I tend to have capabilities that are biased to shorter distances, speed, and typical fast twitch abilities, and I attribute that to a lot of work on strengthening and conditioning, with exercises like jump rope. Other good exercises include bounding, box jumps, and bounding or sets of single-leg and double-leg hopping up sets of stairs.
Nope. Go run.
I think it would count as more of an interval training workout but alot of people get efficient at jump roping so i could be wrong.
I tried it in a recent training block, but not so much to build some sort of missing fitness, it was more so I could hop on my toes and improve running form.
Same type of guy to say strength training doesn't help
Jump rope is a good way to do plyometerics, while not really thinking about doing plyometrics.
And, like many other forms of recreation that require aerobic capacity, like irish step dancing, swimming, stair climbing, you can see benefits for ldr.
Can you jump rope while actually running? Try it and report back please.
yes I only do it whilst running. i found when doing it a lot standing still, I got 'shin splints', because the way you land is offset to one side when skipping.
I wonder what's the world record for a jump-roping mile
According to Guinness it's 6:07, which actually seems super easy so idk. Maybe I could set a record here but maybe the rules are weird and it's super strict as far as form the way race walking is?
I did some research. the WR before was 7.xx minutes so he probably knew he didn't need to go all out and played it safe just to make sure he got the record.
if the rope stops or you get it stuck under your feet, then that's it you failed. i suppose you could have another go after a quick break but multiple attempts would soon get pretty draining and the adjudicators probably only have an hour or two to spend with you. so assuming you have the ability to run, say, a 5 minute mile, then that would probably be the hardest thing; the concentration not to mess up the swing of the rope.
it's not just your leg speed and endurance, after 200m your arms are burning as well. but i use a heavy rope, looks like they use a much lighter rope.
Is there any pattern you're required to follow? Like 2 steps per swing or something? Or could you do it much slower which would also probably be easier?
that guy did it 2 steps to a swing which i thought was cheating but Guinness must be okay with that to verify the record. the video is on youtube if you google his name. when i skip and run the rope goes under my body every step.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
