I'm wondering if there's anyone else who prefers not to run workouts in supershoes and what your experience is like. Here's mine:
I have two pairs of running shoes (Brooks Adrenalines and Hoka Mach 4s) that I simply rotate every day, and whichever turns up on workout/long-run day, I wear. Pretty much everybody else on my team has a pair of trainers for easy/long-run day but vaporflys or another similar supershoe for track workouts. I've always done workouts in trainers throughout high school and college, and I've been very happy with it. I run whatever times I run in practice, and then on raceday I spike up in Dragonflys and I feel amazing in them and can typically beat everybody who runs the same workout times as me in practice (who wear supershoes).
This year has been a little different. In HS, nobody on my team wore supershoes for workouts, and we all ran more or less together. However, now in college, everybody wears supershoes except me, and I'm now behind all the kids who are wearing them, although we run similar times in races. I have run a few workouts this year in Hyperion Elites, and I found my times drop very high amounts (2-4 seconds per 400m), but I didn't feel the boost from the spikes that I usually feel in races, and I found my workout times annoyingly inflated. I truly like and will not stop wearing trainers for workouts, running "slower" workouts, and then popping off in races, but I don't like being behind everybody in workouts.
I've also noticed that when I wear supershoes regularly, I feel weaker when I take them off. At the end of my senior track season, I started running alphafly tempos all the time for about 2 weeks, and I totally bombed my last two races. Before a race this December, I only wore my Hyperion Elites for a week, and I ran possibly my worst race ever.
Just want to know if anybody else is experiencing something similar
