Tuohy is showing up to win and get an NCAA qualifier. Wiley is showing up to try and beat other top collegians and see where she really stacks up since she chose to run NAIA.
Yep, but Tuohy didn't improve and isn't near the world records. thanks for pointing out her stagnation. Elite women get to elite by not stagnating. Look at Koko. she ran similar times to Tuohy at age 16 but was world class in her late teens.
I agree. I’m sure Tuohy had the time of her life. In fact, I’m pretty sure she said just that. She was there for the experience and the opportunity, that was pretty clear.
I agree with this. Tuohy isn’t showing up to run a tactical race either.
There is NO reason to waste your time, energy and focus on this particular event unless you were looking to go very, very fast and see what you have at this point in the season.
Last year was tactical with Elly Henes in the race as well. The pacing was set very slow through the first half. Unless they have asked for it to be a lot faster, I think we will see the same race.
Most NC State top distance runners run the mile during the indoor season so I am not sure why this race seems different, other than being close to millrose. They race camel city every year.

once again it was tactical as the pros (Henes) was going for the double following the win in the 3,000 <1 hour earlier and the cash bonus ($6,000 I believe) associated with winning both events. Unlesss Camp is trying to do the same this should be a more honest pace.
What would you have said about Schweizer at 20 years old? You could have listed several women that she had a 0-5 record against.
Schweitzer won NCAA XC at age 20. She turned 20 in May 2016 and she did not win NCAA outdoor 5,000 or SEC 1500 at 20 years and 1 month or less years of age. I'm not sure there were 5 ladies who beat her in both though. But at 20 years and 6 months she started winning.
I counted 48 races that she lost before winning her first NCAA title. And some of those races, she lost to dozens of women so it is likley that she lost to multiple women 5 times before beating them.
should we add up all of the races Tuohy lost at age 18 and 19 as well?
Huh? I am pretty sure Tuohy has almost no chance running 4:26 in winter indoors in a college race, if professionals several years older and with PBs around 4:00 in the 1500m struggle to run this in perfectly paced races like Millrose. 4:28 would be very good mark in january for her.
The other issue is the pacing. Last year the pacer went out at 2:21 for 800m. If it is paced at 4:40 not going to happen. I hope it is paced fast (at least faster than last year) but I don't think this is a record attempt.
Yes, of course. If Tuohy was in the Millrose Mile she might have a shot at 4:25-26, but again, people please look into the last few seasons and realize how good 4:25 indoors is for professionals who have run around 4:00 1500m outdoors (so it would be extraordinary for a 4:06 collegian, despite being close on paper to 4:06 1500m). It usually earns one top 6 place even in races with winning time und 4:20 like the last three Millrose Miles.
Posters are stuck on the fact that Tuohy has beaten Valby three times as evidence that it will continue. Posting who Tuohy lost to and has now beaten, makes the opposite point that runners don't stay stuck in the same order for the rest of their lives.
I'm interested in an ongoing Tuohy/Valby rivalry. I don't really care about who's won more thus far, but what I want to see out of Valby is the recognition that she needs to experiment tactically to beat Tuohy head to head. Valby would have to make another big jump to just assume she can run an evenly paced 3k or 5k and win as she hasn't shown to be faster that Tuohy. When both runners are capable of a similar PR like Tuohy and Valby, there needs to be some thought and strategy on how to use your strengths to beat the other. Ollie Hoare has talked about this in relation to trying to beat Ingie, even if he hasn't yet been successful.
