The team literally got the win on the back of her 5K finish. She feels more valuable to her track team than she would as a "contributor" to UO's struggle to make top 10 in cross.
She should run the 10K at nationals. As guaranteed a win as there is.
No money at florida for Tyynismaa. No reason for Valby to transfer. She is on a full ride at a great school on a team that wins national championships. Remind is why you think she would possibility transfer?
A team championship in track is not the same as a team championship title in cross country. A track team has 20-30 runners scoring. A cross country team only has seven runners scoring.
See how no one here calls Valby a national champion?
A team championship in track is even more special than a cross country championship. There's something special about people doing completely different events contributing to the team score.
You have to spread your scholarship money around. 99 times out of 100 you can't have 18 distance scholarships and 12 distance coaches and then win a track title. It's incredible to see teams with different strategies try to win - based on which event groups they prioritize.
Oh by the way, tuohy is 4-0 against valby so far genius!
Tuohy ran 15:37 at age 15 before Valby even broke 19 for 5k.
Now she can only beat Valby by a few seconds.
You seem to miss the obvious point that tuohy has been beating valby by steady margins for a year now!
And a few seconds is a lot in track! Half a second is a solid win... so when you're winning by 3 and 4 seconds it's not very close...
And there's no indication that valby is closing the gap... If anything KT looks poised to improve more! Based on how strong she looks and the fact that Valby isn't getting any closer!

Said no one ever. Valby don't even train with the nor know them. Ask any professional runner that ran cross country, there is nothing like it.

you seem to miss the obvious point that Tuohy is also running double the mileage of Valby. Valby was injured for much of the last 2 years while Tuohy has been healthy since that minor knee surgery in 2020.
Valby also has zero training partners and that makes a big difference. If I was a pro coach, I'd give Valby a bigger contract than Tuohy.
I’d much rather be part of a national championship team in track than cross country. Valby looks very happy with her championship teammates in this photo:
Parker Valby is built for distances that Tuohy doesn't run. If Tuohy doesn't run 10k, Valby is built for it. If Tuohy runs the 10k, Valby is built for the half marathon and so on. Valby-fan mentality. Never accepting a loss.

Cross country is the title the distance athletes want as a team. Track is like "yay we won" for a distance runner. Let's not pretend it's something more.
Look for Valby to go pro and run for BTC. Who knows if she'll even run for Florida this year.

Last year Florida won the women's championship with 8 scorers (5 runners, 3 jumpers). The men won with 7 runners, quite similar to XC. These numbers are probably typical; teams have won with fewer athletes scoring. I doubt any team has ever had 20 runners score, and certainly not 30.
But she is a champion. Nothing can take that away from her She got freaking 2nd place. She should absolutely feel like a champion.
I also think she's very good but being a champion isn't defined as getting "freaking 2nd place" #gopack
If she puts team champion on her bio I would never have an issue with it. Obviously not the same as an individual champion but Florida doesn't win without her. #stillachampion

That is crazy; low mileage is not always a sign of untapped talent and potential. Sometimes it is an indicator of an important and missing aspect of talent: injury resistance and resilience.
Valby is a terrific runner, but Tuhoy has never lost to her.
And in term of transferring, there is a lot that goes into it if you are in a real program and not Interdisciplinary Studies like a lot of football players on their third school. Probably more hassel than it is a worth to Valby, as an upperclassmen, who likely has NIL deals and a good situation at Florida.
