Need a job urgently. No experience or qualifications in fitness but I ran 15:23, 32:42 autumn last year. It makes sense to try and use this somehow instead of getting another retail or office job?

Probably not. The barrier for entry to personal training is pretty darn low though, all you need is a certification from NASM or some equivalent to get a job at bad globo gyms. I believe it costs like a grand or so and takes a few weeks to complete. That said, working at those places is not fun nor does it pay very much for a total entry level noob.

No. Sadly, the people making money off the personal trainer industry are the companies charging for certification classes.
The one job you can walk into with no experience is school bus driver. Assuming you can drive, and pass the background check and drug tests.
Most school districts will pay for your training if you don't already have the required CDL.
I have a friend that teaches yoga. Never taught yoga before. Never taught anything before. Just started practicing yoga a few months ago. Apparently there’s a yoga teacher class and that’s what she does now.
I would say try Planet Fitness, they might give you some training in that area.
Post on thumbtacks and say you're certified. In home trainer $75+ an hour
I was in the job market about a year ago, I came across quite a few postings on indeed for personal trainers not requiring experience. I seem to remember they all wanted CPR certifications.
If you are willing to put on 100lbs of fat I'm sure you could get a gig at 24hr fitness
I know you're right, but how freaking backwards is this? Can't work as a personal trainer without a cert but any nutjob off the street can shuttle 30 of our most precious children around.

As a personal trainer you are going to need some sort of certification. ACE is pretty cheap and easy to pass. Beyond that you'll need a CPR/AED certification from the Red Cross.
Distance running success actually makes you a poor candidate for a trainer. What are your clients going to do in the GYM? Run on a treadmill? Ahahahahahhaah.
99% of your clients just want to lose weight and look good. They just want someone to be accountable to and give them guidance on weightlifting or push them on a treadmill.
Your boss just wants your clients to continue to buy training and/or gym memberships. That hard to do if all you are doing is watching them on the treadmill like some psycho.
