JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State has hired Jeremy Provence to lead its cross country and track and field program, athletics director Greg Seitz announced on Wednesday.
Hopefully the new AD gives Garfield Ellenwood some support for the program.
And, I hope Mr. Ellenwood gives support of XC and LDR. Most of the time when you get a former sprinter as the head coach, they tend to focus just on sprints, relays and jumps.
how many distance coaches does a track & field program need?
this hire is purely a recruiting tool. They have no coaching experience. I have no respect for head coaches who do this. No wonder this guy is such an introverted little prick.

So glad they hired her over you because it sounds like you suck.

They don't have men's XC and they aren't fully funded (12.6 scholarships)

Honestly a good move, now they can recruit GB easier. I'm surprised more top end programs don't do this as typically the school with the best international runners perform well.

This job probably pays about $40-45K tops and the staff "asked" Sparks to hire a woman. A woman to assist him, not be the head distance coach since he is that. So...what experienced, successful woman is going to want to be an under-paid stopwatch-holder (I don't say that derisively - I've been one much of my career) to live in South Bend Indiana? Name me a head coach that hasn't made this kind of hire with those stipulations? I'll wait...
