Elly Henes ran unattached in 2021. Millrose isn't on the schedule, I assume only Tuohy will run.
There were no Millrose Games in 2021.
Just because an athlete may participate in a meet and be the only one at the meet from their school it does not mean that they are "unattached." It happens fairly often and it doesn't matter if the meet is on the schedule or not.
I have only heard that Tuohy is running. If she does, she will be running for NC State. She isn't redshirting or anything like that.
Big difference between getting $50K per year for your likeness and getting $200K as a salary with performances bonuses.
The 2023-24 Touhy is worth more to Adidas in the ncaa than as a fledgling pro, as in college she competes for records and titles but at pro level is an 'also ran'.
The way it's been working for the Ncaa women's stars in hoops and gymnastics is:
a difference between $200k in college for likeness and getting $200k salary and performance bonus as a pro is 'zero',
so in brave new world of NIL, the incentive is now to stay in college.
I guess if she is happy with $50K.if she were actually fast, she would earn much more as a pro. But you are likely correct that her paycheck ends after college when she gets lapped.
You kind of miss my point. I think at some point KT will be a marketable pro, there is just no longer an incentive to jump to the pros too soon. If you can earn the same money now in ncaa, or as a pro just stay in school.
I got it an agree. A 15:15 runner gets nothing as a pro but makes a nice amount with NIL running against a bunch of women who are barely sub-elite.
And as soon as she is a professional and does not need to race a collegiate schedule and, perhaps even lives and trains at altitude, she is no longer a 15:15 runner.
Really? Tell that to hundreds of people in crappy jobs who were running great in college at 20 years old.
It really won't matter. She'll get her degree and if she doesn't make it as a pro she'll have a good job and more than likely make more in a few years than you'll make in a lifetime.
