I'm sure she has been very consistent in holding the mileage rhythm and checking all the cardiovascular bases to continue to capitalize on her fitness.
I had more respect for Valby's race. Despite all the speculation here, Tuohy was the HEAVY favorite. Valby showed a ton of guts to apply heavy pressure from the gun.
If Valby knew the course better and knew how to run tangents, I'm not sure if Tuohy catches her.
She probably ran 100 extra meters because she never took a tangent, and in an interview she said she didn't know the finish was right around the corner when Tuohy passed her so she didn't time her kick correctly at all.
Ultimately Solinsky let Valby down by not teaching her the course or even basic race tactics. He should have taken her to a hilly course or even to the NCAA course earlier in the season.
I truly don’t understand what you have against this woman? Is it that she’s run a faster 5k at 15-19 than you ever could? Is it that she has a deal with adidas or any other brand as soon as she decides to go pro? Is it the fact that people look up to her? What is some of you guy’s problem? Constantly criticizing KT and many like her, it’s crazy cause y’all aren’t the ones coaching them.
Let them race, it’s not even January yet dude. One race on tired legs from a hard course is significantly tougher to recover from than someone of your caliber understands. Everyone recovers at different rates.
Must get tiring being a jealous hater, your New Year’s resolution should be to not type anything if you have nothing nice to say(: little keyboard warrior.
Why do Tuohy fans get so offended by someone thinking a runner might have more long term potential than her? It's not an insult to Tuohy but a compliment to other runners.
But semihaze, astro, fasttuohy and others literally cry over it.
People speculate on men's athletes all the time and are able to have civil conversations and nobody gets their feelings hurt.
Nobody hates Tuohy. Nobody insults Tuohy. Having a discussion about the future is very healthy. There are millions of posts abut the football playoff with people predicting which team will win and which teams will get blown out. IT doesn't mean that they like or dislike the teams. If an ESPN announcer makes his predictions ans he has never played football himself, do you insult him by telling him how bad he would be at football? Many great coaches were not great runners.

Look in the mirror, bud! your posts don't in any way come across as contributing to 'civil conversation'.

please cite where I "literally cried" over "it". I question what I think is flawed logic, but that is about it.
Her XC nationals performance this fall reminded me of why I love this sport. The front-runner from FL on a hot-streak vs the HS phenom from NY who may have been saving her best for last was a compelling story line and I couldn't have written a better script for how the race played out. I don't understand how you watch that performance and have anything other than respect and admiration for her ability to turn it on when it matters most.
I can see how others' rhetoric here can sour you on Tuohy, but if you can separate yourself from that just enjoy this awesome career arc and hope she can can continue to build and represent the USA competitively.

I absolutely have respect for Valby. She needed to run like that to have a chance, and she gave herself a real shot, still ending up with a commendable runner-up spot.
But at the top tiers of racing, race-day execution is often the extra advantage that separates two elite athletes; it's part of the sport, not secondary to it. At the HS and collegiately level, Tuohy has shown serious promise at this marriage of elite ability and race-day execution, which I hope she can continue at the next level.
And let's be honest, they all knew the rules when they lined up. Tangents? Course map? Her coach was Chris Solinsky; I'm pretty sure those things didn't escape them in their preparation.
Tuohy had a great high school career and has had a great NCAA career but there is nothing to indicate that she will be able to drop the amount of time necessary in order to make the next jump. She was putting in high mileage in high school and she is built like a 200 meter runner. Karissa Schweizer put in very low mileage throughout high school and is petite like a world class runner. Cook and Valby are pretty much Schweizer fast forward.

I didn't follow her in HS. What mileage did she run? Searching through posts on the site some reference low mileage as well from HS. Does anyone really know?
Curious about the thousands of other low mileage HS runners.
I think a lot on here forget mileage is just one aspect of training volume, if she cross trains a lot. It's kinda silly to put here in the same category as someone who runs 30 MPW with no cross training. The main thing is to get on the starting line healthy, if she can only max out mileage at 50 MPW but cross trains on top of that 2+ hours a day so be it. Not everyone needs to be running 80-100+ MPW to be the best. Some need to just add cross training to their schedule after they hit a certain mileage threshold. This mileage trap is what prevents a lot of people from hitting their true potential.
