Hello! I’m new to the forum looking for advice for my son. He has been really into running for about 8 months now. he competed in xc this fall and is trying to get in shape for track this spring. He’s 13 (14 in March). He is training mostly for the 3000m and two mile in track. We were hoping to get some advice on how to train. His time has kind of stalled at around 13:30 for the two mile, and a little under that for the 3000. Can anyone give us some advice on how to train better? Right now, he’s doing two extremely easy 45 minute runs each week (about 4mikes each at like a 9 min mile pace), 4x400m sprinting intervals (with 400m rest between) once a week, and timing a 2 mile and a 3000m each week. That’s 5 days of running and 2 off. Totaling around 13-14 miles per week. He wants to run more, but I’ve read that kids his age should do too many miles. Any advice on a better schedule? We started this one a few weeks ago, before this he was doing 5k’s several times per week. Thanks so much!!!!!
