looks like someone bumped this thread back up, so lets take a trip down memory lane and see how my predictions held up.
"Leo will best 8:30, no 8:26 though. Lex will be far behind." nope, neither ran a 3200, 2 mile, or 3k all season. little disappointing.
"Lex will get Rupps 5k by A LOT. Motivated by his lackluster xc season." Not by 'A LOT', but he did get it!!!
"Between L&L, Lil Sahlman, Kipyego, Hansen, and the Oregon duo, two will not best their junior times, the others will all go sub 4. Three will be faster than Colin, one faster than Webb. None will best Kessler. A few underclassmen and one senior besides this group will also go sub 4."
Ok, so I predicted that of those 7 that ran 4:01 or better as juniors, two would not run faster than their junior year, and the other 5 would break 4. I was sort of right here. Lex and and Kipyego did not run faster than they did as juniors, nor did they break 4. Leo, although he ran 3:39 4 times, did not run sub 4. Conner, although he DID run sub 4, didn't go faster than his junior year. Aaron was very close to sub 4.
Simeon was the only one who arguably was a better miler/1500 guy than Colin Sahlman. No one was close to Webb or Kessler. Big time wrong there. No underclassmen ran sub 4, in fact I don't think that any underclassmen, Danny Simmons and Clay Shively included, ran faster than those 7 guys did as juniors last year. (all 4:01.3 or better.) I predicted that one other senior would also break 4, I think I was thinking of Heidesch to be the one to do it back then. It was actually two though, Heidesch and Tinoda Matsatsa who came out of nowhere.
"If Aaron stays focused on the 800 he will not get the record. If he focuses on the mile he'll get Webb's record." nope.
"Gorze will break 29." 18 milliseconds off. Feelsbadman.
"Newbury will put L&L&A under 8:40 at Arcadia if Aaron focuses on the mile, not if he focuses on the 800. Doshi and Seymour will also be sub 9. Seymour will run 4:03. Newbury will get whatever distance relay record they choose to pursue, 4xmile, DMR, or 4x8."
After NXN the greatest high school sports team in US history went separate ways. Seymour failed to break 9 this season despite running 4:06 in the mile (???). Doshi disappeared after indoor. Cantu actually broke 9 by a bit which surprised me. Technically I was right that they would get every distance relay record they chose to pursue, since they didn't pursue any. Oh well.
