You'll need more than a county champ to compete w/ the 2 oly trials runners at Stanford, Willis and Whittaker. They have national range of 53/1:59/4:35

I dont doubt Barnett can qualify for the mile, but then they have her run the heat, and 1 1/2 hours later lead off the DMR and then hopefully run the mile final the next night. I think she did that this Spring and the mile final did not go well. But, hypothetically, Appleton against Tuohy (both fresh) is not close so VA would need a good lead. With them running their best I think NC St might place higher at Nationals than in ACC where everybody can run their best fresh, while at Nationals as I said most teams run some "B" runners.

UNC has freshman Lilly Shapiro who hasn't races yet but was one of the best recruits in the nation. 58 open 400, 2:06, 4:40, 10:18 and 6:41 steeple. Best range in the county.

Unfortunately, Mareno posted on her Instagram story a couple of days ago that she just had a surgery on her foot/ankle and won't be running for 12 weeks.
Oh no! No word on Shaw and Starliper either
VA Tech usually has the mid distance runners and if Butler is all the way back dont forget about them.
Totally agree with that. Butler ran 4:29 last year as anchor. Butler- Barnett- Tuohy- Markezich battle at ACCs would be fun.
I don't see NC state as a national title contender in dmr at nationals though given some athletes may be injured, they might be weaker in the 400m/800m, and Tuohy will probably do 3k/5k.
Maybe appleton will be 1600 leg for uva again. I think she is vastly underrated at the 1600 after her dmr legs from last winter and a solid cross season. We'll have to see who goes where, maybe atkinson will be in the mix too.
