I’ve heard things aren’t going so great for him at UCLA as he’s apparently frustrated the level of commitment from the team doesn’t match his expectations and he is rubbing many of the athletes the wrong way. Sounds a bit bumpy in Westwood. Maybe over time issues will work themselves out, but it’s reaching a tipping point.
Brosnan wants to coach people who are all in on being the best they can possibly be, like the Youngs and Sahlmans. UCLA hasn't been attracting those types of distance runners, so there's a mismatch between what Brosnan wants and what the current UCLA runners want.
Brosnan may get to the point where he encourages the less committed members of the team to transfer, so it can free up spots for more committed transfers to come in.
The difference for Brosnan was parental support. He could demand whatever he wanted and the parents want it so bad for their kids, they'd hold them responsible. College kids aren't kids, they're adults and don't like being treated like that.

Those recruits will not make them better than they are now.
But it's always possible UCLA could get a late commitment from a high school senior. For example, Kaho Cichon didn't decide on UCLA until she had almost graduated from high school.
Aaron Cantu from NP hasn’t made his commitment yet. He has been improving this year and beat Ramses Cortes.
Hector Martinez will be doing track according to Instagram. The reason why he didn’t do XC is because he was injured. Maybe he will run for ucla as well
Meant to say this on this post, not the previous one.

Cantu beat him at nationals and had a great race but that doesn't make him better. Same thing goes to the Young's getting beat at nationals doesn't make everyone who did better overall it's just a bad race. Cantu is significantly slower at every level in terms of PR in every event compared to Cortes. Cortes did seem to struggle a lot this season I wonder what was up with that.

Maybe in some cases. But I know the Young's parents and they aren't pushy about running.
Some college runners don't need to be pushed by their coach because they are very self motivated. And some college runners like getting pushed. Those are the kinds of runners that Brosnan wants on his team. But his current team may not like that kind of coach so I'm not surprised there is some tension.
Brosnan found out you can’t just BS kids into coming
What does this even mean? The Youngs, Sahlmans, Daniel Applefords, and Jace Aschebrenners did not transfer. And if they won 3 straight national titles under Brosnan with the individual national champ all 3 of those years....can't be much "BS"

The Youngs and Sahlmans did transfer. They changed their enrollment from the Pleasant Valley School District to the Conejo Valley School District. They transferred before their 9th grade year, but absolutely did transfer.
They were never enrolled in pleasent valley school district, therefore its not considered a transfer. They choose a different school district before the start of 9th grade. You can’t transfer out if you were never in.
The Westwood area is not a great place to train for distance runners.
That's a misleading statement. Most of the UCLA training takes place in areas several miles away. There are plenty of parks and trails not that far from UCLA.

You don’t know.
It’s hard to attend a school without enrolling in it. They were enrolled in one district and transferred to another in an area that was outside of the school boundary where they lived.
does anyone know how much scholarship money UCLA gives Sean to play with? Does UCLA noy fund their distance program as much?
When Devin was the coach, most of the men were on books or small stipends at most.
After Peter did good in the steeplechase, they put him on a ton of money though. So it’s a little wacky. They DO have money, but they up the scholarship on guys who produce. But attracting talent? Not much.
Sean almost brought in a 2:08/4:24 (1500m) Canadian girl who ran those marks as a Junior. He told her she would have money for next year, but couldn’t guarantee it for this year. Instead she picked a different school that offered an actual full ride.
He is a little hamstrung in the scholarship department.

This post will be met with a bunch of down votes but who cares...
The fact is the entire scholarship structure set up by the NCAA is stupid. It forces schools to pick XC or track... the distance only schools love it as do their fan boys...
UCLA is a track school first... distance comes second... they want to do well on the national stage in track and just hope to spend as little as possible on the distance side... they are hoping that the new coach's big reputation and the name UCLA can get recruits to come to the school for as little as possible... (nice that they are willing to reward success once a recruit is there)... there is nothing wrong with this strategy... it's just how they do it there... other schools are all in on distance and due to that philosophy they have more $ available for distance.
Like I said, the NCAA set this up in a stupid way... each sport (XC and track) should have had a separate scholarship structure but they didn't so it is what it is. Fire away.

Agreed it’s stupid- I don’t understand how they make it one combined pool of scholarship $$ xc athletes shouldn’t lose out On $ because they want a good pole vaulter instead and vice versa.

Many schools, but especially those with big football programs, have combined track/xc teams with shared scholarships for Title IX reasons

they give essentially nothing which is why out of state tuition is scaring away everyone. that’s easily a big reason why aaron turned down ucla for nau
