I think you ought to embrace and enjoy the variety, fit in 2 - 3 runs/workouts here and there to keep the feeling of it.
Truly, I think devoting all you can in high school while forgetting there’s other things you enjoy/experience is a mistake.
I didn’t. I’ve always had variety, more interests than many other fairly competitive athletics. I was an ice hockey player and swimmer as well. I adjusted focus/efforts with the seasons. I focused on swim season during it’s season, and told the track coach I planned to do so during indoor track season (swim season). He asked me to still run with the team 2-3 times a week and compete when/if I could.
X-training (or a different sport) can be such an important break- mental and physical. You’re allowed to love both, despite the pressure you feel. For reference, my second fastest 1600 time (high school) was during indoor/swim season, placing 8th in Virginia’s top division. 14 years from HS graduation, I’m one of the few gals, compared to my counterparts, who still genuinely enjoys running and never burned out.
I guess I feel strongly about this. Do you and what you love. It works, and I know you’re not lazy. You’re not losing fitness. You might have to put in a little work for 2-3 weeks to get the run part back, but it’ll happen faster than you think. Good luck! Enjoy yourself out there!
