Mile times in HS have gotten significantly faster and with more depth over the last couple years. The only explanation has to be that the mile distance is getting shorter to achieve these times. When are we going to wake up and hold these meet directors accountable?
It’s your ability to question that’s shrinking, Brianiac. Don’t just accept what the track lines say. They’ve been moving the start line forward inch by inch.

Not so far off here...i suggested this in the past.
But it could be that knowledge of true tangents could be at play here.
Let's paint a picture...
The innermost inner runner is going to tangentially net 396 meters per 400.
In a mile...1609.34 m....this is 12 seconds short.
in a running sprint..we'll even grant 12 seconds
My knowledge of tangents and front loading led to my 19:35 PR at Carlsbad
Some tracks are designed for a curb and some not. If set up properly and the officials are paying attention the distance is accurate unless the track was made improperly. 12 seconds? Are you joking?

Nope.
If I'm running 396*4.025 which is technically correct...then around an inside track, it is 1593.9
But a true mile is 1609.34
So I'm about 15.5 m short.
Usain Bolt had a WR 9.58 over 100m
9.58/15.5= .61806
So i guess the difference is more like 2.2 seconds.
But even 2.2 seconds is not exactly honest..right?
