CDA High School will have a pretty solid cross team next year. The coach is telling me he wants everyone running in the 14's next year! Wyatt will lucky to break 16 as a number #5. But good enough for states....
I am like "Newbury Park does not have everybody running in the 14's...Dial it back Champ".
Runners are getting faster. The 5:03 pace by the winner in the 4K boys was crazy. He also ran a great race not taking the bait and going out with the front runner (who took 4th I think).
That's true in the other races as well. I had a team start from box 1 on the main starting line and they were way back because of the full cut over to the right side. Not sure why they couldn't angle the starting line a bit.
Agree, although I thought overall they did a good job. Check in was smooth, they quickly adjusted the number of shuttle buses and it went pretty quick from the parking, the awards ceremonies were organized, etc. I actually don’t mind not having a super accurate distance because it’s cross country, but I’m with you on the 3k start line issues. For those who weren’t there, they had a separate starting line that was about halfway through the starting area. 2k, 4k and 5k all uses the usual starting line. Not the end of the world but they clearly failed on adjusting the angle of the starting line to adjust for the distance to the first turn. And it was an huge line (400+ kids in many 3ks) Every 3k race the kids who started the 3k on the right were way ahead of the kids who started on the right. Every. Single. Race.

Very common problem. Same thing happened in 2018 Reno USATF Cross Country Junior Olympics.

I don't remember it in Reno but maybe we didn't have a terrible lane draw like that or I just plain forgot. We probably had other things we were thinking about in Reno, like all the snow or goose poop on the course.
So if you were in box on the left to start, you were basically running way behind for the first several hundred yards . SMH . Also , the commentary for this event was horrible. The USATF must do better in the future.
