I've heard (along with some of the previous posts) that the soccer players who also run track seem to "convert to" mid-distance, i.e., 800/1500/mile, runners. More than one person has told me that it has to due with the similarities between running done in soccer training/games and mid-distance runners' workouts. I ran mid-distance (mainly 800) in high school and college, but I've never played soccer, so I guess I can't really comment or confirm/deny one way or the other. In college (a little D-II school in Pennsylvania), there was a quality soccer player from Jamaica, who also ran the 100m and 200m for the T&F team. I remember his 100m times being in the 10.5-10.7 range and his 200m times around 21.0-22.0. I've also heard of longer distance (5000m and up) runners coming from a soccer background. So if there is a correlation with soccer players and running, I wonder at what racing distance(s), if any, the soccer conditioning is best suited.
