I’m talking to you Central Section and SJS, why is it not based on speed? It’s dumb because teams can and will take advantage of it.
One year, MY OWN girls TEAM was in D3 and had only four girls, but two of them were top 10 in the section, but somehow, the next year they get bumped down to D4.
Now I know what your thinking, “it’s because they didn’t have a big enough team for D3,” okay that’s valid, but there are many more teams who take advantage of the competitiveness scale.
For example, Santa Maria, 5th in the D2 section. With a population of over 2300 students suddenly goes down to D3? That makes no sence because they were one of the fastest team in D2.
Next, we have Central Highschool. Man this makes me mad; Population: 2,400 students and in division 3. And ever since they’ve been in D3, they either win the section title or go to state. However, since they’ve won so many times, they got bumped up into D2 last year (yay!). But do you know what they did to counter it? They only put four guys in the section meet so their team wouldn’t score, but their first guy won the D2 title. They know that if they don’t score then they will get back down to D3, which they will be, because of this placement system.
Now on a personal note, my boys team have been in D3 since we joined the section, but this year and last year, we got last and second-to-last all to hear that we will not be bumped down to D4.
This system is inconsistent and Central Section and SJS must go by population instead of “competitiveness”
Just a side note: Oakland section must not be a section, because it only comprises of fourteen (five or take) teams. And the times show it too. All disrespect, but it’s not fair to the other teams in other section who have a little to no chance of going to state while y’all have a 1/3 chance).
And Southern Section needs to get split into three different sections (ie: southern coast, southern, and southeast).
