Herriman beat American Fork by only 18 points at NXN. American Fork loses their #4 only (who is the at the same level as their #6), but Herriman loses 4 of their top 5 including 2 All-Americans. So Herriman is taking much heavier graduation hits than American Fork
Don’t look past Jesuit out of the Northwest. Yes they loose there top 3. But there is a storyline in that they return 4 from NXN. Schumacher will be back in the mix and they have 4 on there JV squad under 16:30. Not predicting a podium finish yet for them but more or less saying they will not fall off the radar screen in the Pacific Northwest and could return to NXN. Especially when you look at the talent graduating this year out of the region. The coach has a history of developing talent and you can never rule out the potential for some transfers especially after this years performance.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Coeur D’Alene ID knocks off Jesuit for second place at NXR. They will be the first Idaho boys team to make it if they do.
CDA placed 7th, returns their whole team, and their 1-4 did better than Jesuit’s top 4 nonseniors at NXR. Losing Jesuit’s 1-3 will be very huge.
CDA needs to find a fifth runner but there are many people in grades 8-10 that can pull that off.
Seeing Rocky Mountain not even get an at-large will motivate CDA to try to be the first Idaho team to make it. It’s also worth noting that NXR is held in CDA’s state
JR Kaden Evans - #6 guy at NXN, after running 5:01/11:25 on the track as a freshman, he dropped over 3 minutes in his XC times and became a regular staple of the team's top 7 as a sophomore.
The Northwest will probably be the deepest region next year aside from maybe the southwest. Crater will be really dangerous, Jesuit is historically good, Coeur D'Alene is very young and talented, and I wouldn't count Rocky Mountain out, as they graduate 3 solid guys, but the ones they return are all very good, and they are a quite deep team.

Idaho would happily annex Kamiakin because it is probably in a very red county, but hard pass on claiming a Seattle school.
Kids improve fast but unpredictably in HS. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if at this time next year, the class of ‘24 looks as good as the class of ‘23 and produces 5-10 guys speed rated over 200 at NXN.
Junior to senior year tends to be pretty predictable but what people do soph/junior year can be nuts. Kids can grow 4" and go from 4:40 milers to 4:15.... Most of these teams have a couple of current sophs/juniors who are like 9:40-9:50 3200m guys. Which ones step up to be 9:20 guys determines who wins. And of course staying healthy. Few teams are NP deep where you can have a top 5 guy not show up and have your top 2 have a horrible race and still win..

Doshi (NP’s normal 5th man) was planning on not racing at NXN because he was sick. He ended up racing but didn’t score. Cantu scored well for them, and their 7th man beat all other 7th runners and many scorers. So they had the depth all the way through 7 for them to win even with many people with off days

Another Washington team to watch is Issaqah. They won 4A, and only have 2 seniors and 1 junior on varsity. The sophs should be able to make a big jump from soph to junior year

Flower Mound returns their entire top 7. Their #1-3 was one of the best in the nation as seen at nationals, and all three return.
The good: Scoring 3, 5, and 12 at nationals is absolutely fantastic to see coming back
The bad: Having one of the best top 3 in the nation doesn't mean much if your 4th and 5th are ways back. They might return all 7, but they also scored: 73, 106, 141, 146, for #4-7.
Boys: Southlake Carroll they had a bad run at NXN, as they came down with the flu prior. Arguable that maybe they were better in the early season (I disagree?). Performed well early season finishing 3rd at Woodbridge, to the two teams who ended up 3rd and 4th at nationals. This was despite Jude (#1 or #2 guy) running in the other Varsity race at Woodbridge.
The good:
+Returns 4 of their top 7 (the upper runners).
+The spread from #1-5 has usually been within 20~ seconds all year long (besides nationals)
+They have a very deep secondary roster. Literally could have swapped guys out from #5-7 with #8-12 and still saw similar results. Their secondary varsity won the Rated Varsity race at Woodbridge, showcasing they did have depth. From what I have seen, they have a very solid returning top 8, with two other potentials.
The bad:
-Subpar performance at NXN, so not expected to perform well next year compared to other teams who have many returnees (who finished far better)
-They graduate Logan (who was consistently either #1 or #2 this year with Jude)
