A lot of people on here have been talking sh@t about them today. They clearly had an off day. Very possible they were just burnt out from running near every CA course record they ran. Rumors are they were sick as doshi was sick / wasn't even going to run. I know its hard for people to comprehend, but you dont go from an overwhelming #1-2 to 11 and 35 because the wind was too hard. Did the lead guy in the chase pack die from the wind? Aarons winning time was an insane SR, but was it soooo out of possibility that the pace would have made them hit the wall in a 5k. No shot.
You dont spend 30+ mins getting medical attention after dropping 34 places from where you should have been and act like "you just went out too hard".
An external factor caused them to only be the second best xc team of all time (only to thier own team last year) and thats fine.
My final race of xc years ago, I ran 19 flat on Bowdin (ny runners will know) when I was a 17:45 - 18min runner there all season bc of swine flu. Life happens.
They are not "done". If you think that youre an idiot and you are going to see insane times all indoors and outdoors. Also the amount of judgement passed on a bunch of high school Boys is insane. They are kids, let them live you weirdo basement living 45 year old man Childs.
This is not taking away from Aaron, he raced masterfully and deserves his win 100%. He was patient and attacked every uphill. Much is to be respected. I think its fair to say he would have challenged lex and Leo up front anyways and possibly even won with them at full health.
That's all. Its awesome to see the young/sahlman dynasty in xc come to an end. It will probably be the most dominant for years to come. Good luck lex and Leo at Stanford and Aaron at nau; those battles the next 4 years will be legendary.
