I'm not saying she should be a 10k runner, I like how they run her now at NC st. It's just that she is more likely to set records and win titles at 10k than 800. Also as you know all the videos, when you watch the high school 15:37, or last seasons 15:14 and 4:06 solos you can't help but notice that kt has an uncanny ability to lock into a pace and grind out perfect splits. That ability is what made her the ideal front running rabbit as a freshman, and what will make her an excellent 10k runner (at some point).
Also, if you know her a bit, she really likes distance. If she wasn't discouraged by the coaches (injury avoidance), she'd love to jump into a 10 mile, 13.1 mile or even a marathon off season just for fun. She's not scared of distance, but rather relishes it
Some good news for you, assuming she puts up a solid time Friday, she won't run another serious 5k til acc/NCAA indoor. She'll run miles/3ks and relays, unless she wants to help pace some teammates.
Your response misses the point. By predicting Valby will surpass Tuohy, I’m acknowledging that Tuohy is currently ahead. Runner A cannot surpass Runner B unless Runner A is currently behind.

I agree. Most mid-distance runners are running 800m frequently and often better than longer distances as teenagers. The ability for solo running is usually also an indication that one will eventually be best in longer distances. Klosterhalfen had similar PBs at 19 (2016, a bit better in 3k, a bit worse in 5k) as Tuohy does now (at 20) and dropped sub 4 the following year but eventually turned out best in longer distances.
Now # 1 in the 3k. Total of 27 points with 6 in the 1500,10 in the mile ,10 in the 3k and 1 in the 5k. Only trails Jennie who has 44 points with 10 in the 1500,9 in the mile,8 in the 3k, 7 in the Steeple and 10 in the 5k.When she gets the 5k record she will move up to 36 points and move Jennie down to 43 points. If she can get the 1500 record she will still trail by 2 points.Needs to add an event or have other runners pass Jennie.
No, not another Jenny. Jenny was really ahead of her time. Did it all in the old shoes, too. And no other women around her speed at the time of her collegiate peak.
When Jenny Simpson graduated college in 2009 she was # 1 all time in(5 of the 7 NCAA championship distance races) the 1500,mile,3K, Steeple and 5k. She was only missing the 800 and 10K. 13 years later she is still #1 in the 1500,mile and 5k,2nd in the 3K and 4th in the Steeple.Katelyn is currently 7th in the 1500 and 10th in the 5K.I think she might move up to 1st or 2nd on Saturday in the 5K.If she stays healthy,I think she can be # 1 in the mile,3K and 5K and probably 2nd in the 1500 by the end of the year.
Katelyn Tuohy at 20 years old (2 more years left of eligibility)
1500m 4:06 (top 7 all-time)
* mile 4:25 (converted) (top 2 all-time)
3000m 8:54 (ran injured) (top 15 all-time)
5000m 15:14 (top 8 all-time)
steeple - katelyn will never run steeple
cross country - 1x individual champion, 2x team champion
katelyn will never run the steeple but i think her cross country resume can make up for that gap
I truly think Katelyn CAN break the mile, 3000m, 5000m record, as for the 1500m, its the hardest record to break in the NCAA! but if theres someone who's capable of getting close to that, its katelyn tuohy, if she trains more for middle distances, then surely it'll be easier but shes in a program where the longer distance is the focus and the middle distance are just part of the "training" to winning the longer distances.
Katelyn ran 4:06 without really training for that event. She shaved off 6 seconds in just a year, shaving another 6 is a tall order but reachable.
Jenny Simpson ran 3:59. kT ran 4:06. Monson is running 14:30. KT is about a minute behind. She is a decent collegiate runner but not much else. Enjoy her as a collegiate runner. She is never running 14:20..
Surpassing Jenny doesn't make you the NCAA GOAT because it's not Jenny. It's King Ches. Regardless of what you think of him now, anything outside of the NCAA doesn't affect the standings. She may surpass him if she stays in the league long enough, but for now, like it or not, it's Ches.
