Wayzata has these runners back next year:
Kissell - 11 - 4:23 / 9:37
Weber - 10 - 4:23 / 9:20
McMillan - 11 - 4:24
McCollor - 11 - 4:25 / 9:20
Dietrick - 11 - 4:32 (ran a 15:51 at NXR, and was scoring on varsity since freshman year)
Haag - 10 - 4:41 / 9:57
Salatino - 10 - 4:42 (was on the varsity XC team last season)
Thanks for setting up that contest. We need more enthusiasm like that. I don't know enough about all the classes to predict. However I will say there should be some great races.
I can't see anyone beating Brecker in the 3200m, however the 1600m should be a great one.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Andrew Casey go under 1:50 for the 800m. His 48.9 open 400m speed and xc strength should combine well.
Relays are always interesting to see who will run their stars or sit them out for the individual events. Weather looks like it will be cooperating.
Breker - 8:51
Jones - 8:54
Scott - 8:57
Mechura - 9:06
Sutter - 9:07
Westerlund - 9:13
Lueth - 9:17
Gilles - 9:24
Santiago - 9:24
Starfield - 9:26
Everyone in this group is graduating except Scott, Mechura, Sutter, and Santiago.
Wayzata freshman Gullickson wins girls 3200
Say it with me: “Maddie-Gullie.”
I think we’re going to be hearing her name a lot in both XC and Track over the next three years.
Wayzata has 1 sophomore and 2 freshmen girls under 5:07. Also another 8th grader who ran at NXN.
And another junior who ran a 5:17.
Looks like they won’t be too bad next year even after losing a huge senior class.
I know this is nothing new for track coverage, but the commentary is brutal. The announcer doesn't understand the concept of the stagger and thinks whoever is in the outside lane is leading.
Well at least he accomplished some good things in his running career….
Closed the gap on Southwest’s 4th at sections / state / NXR in 2021 (after not knowing whether they will have a 5th or not), which lead them to a first state berth in forever / second place state meet finish (after 8th at sections in 2020) / a high NXR finish. All that after being midpack JV during track 2021
Now, real question is whether Southwest will close the 4-5 gap for XC 2023. Will there be another Wes Sumner.
They have a solid 4 - Scott, Meyer, Batalden, Ueland
He's going to St. Olaf. They're a perennial top 20 DIII team and the women's program just had a Southwest teammate (Alison Bode) earn All-American honors with a 35:03 10K. Seeing that she never ran under 20:20 in high school, I'd hope his best years are ahead of him.
