depends on how you want to define your terms. maybe he felt happiest/best about his running career after his freshman year of college. maybe that’s when he had his most impressive performances. there’s probably a good argument there.

His freshman year of college could be considered inner circle too. How many US men had a better first year in college than he did? I think it’s fair to say he shined brightest as a college freshman. It was mostly downhill after that.
