If old like me, 5:40. If young, 5:00.
5:20-5:25
About sub 5:45.
Really? That seems rather slow. I hear of people that have only broke 18 after a sub 5 mile. I guess that is would be encouraging for me. Thanks
A low-mileage, speedier person probably needs sub 5 for sub 18. An aerobic monster could do it with much higher like 5:20 I would guess. So be honest with yourself what type you are.
If you're a 51.xx & 2:02.xx 400 & 800 person, (4:35 to 4:45). Not everyone is equally good: 1500m, 1600m, 1 mile, 3000m, 3200m, 3miles, 5000m. Asking message board will not a person equally good in 1 mile and 5000m.
5-5:40. You were already provided with range. A 50 year old guy will be 5:40 while a 14 year old will be 5:00.
Your range is incorrect. 5000m at 18 is 5:47.xx/ mile pace.
A 5:40 miler isn't racing sub-18. I had HS teammates with 51.xx or 52.xx 400 p.b., 4:35 to 4:45 guys who couldn't race sub-18 5k XC. The correct range: 4:35 to 5:35
5:05-5:10
You could pull it off with a 5:30 if you're something like 100% slow twitch.
For the rest of us, a 5:10 should do it. But if you're fast-twitch, you'll need a 4:50.
But you are wrong because I am the guy. Wait until you get old.
A no taper all by yourself mile TT 20 seconds faster than 5000 pace(5:47) so 5:27.
A better predictor for a 5000 is a 3200 say in 11:20 or 3000 10:40
Of course this will butter your toast
3000 10:48
3 minutes rest walk/jog
2000 7:12
This season I ran 4:56 (both indoor and outdoor) for 1500m on track in the spring/summer and 37:15 for 10K on the roads in the fall. I'm confident that I'd break 18' if well rested without issues but going sub 5:15 for the mile would be extremely difficult.
4:50-5:20 depending on your training age for most people
5:00-5:10
I'm old too. The last time I broke 18 I ran 17:56. Three weeks later I ran 5:07. The guy who said 5:05 to 5:10 is correct. The guys who say 5:40 to 5:45 don't know what they're talking about.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
