I don't think Dakotah Lindwurm had much success in HS. I think hockey was her main sport. Division 2 All-American, two Grandma's victories, runner-up at Twin Cities, 3rd American at Boston, Olympic Trials, PR 2:25
She burst onto the collegiate scene this cross country season with a 5th place at the Cowboy Jamboree with a decent 20:29 6k on the hilly Stillwater course. Then a shocking 3rd place at Nuttycombe behind Tuohy & Chmiel in a very impressive 19:57.5. She then won the Big Sky Championships and took 2nd at the Mountain Regionals behind Evelyn Kemboi in 19:55.7!
Then, at the Big Dance, back at Stillwater just over a week ago, she placed 4th at Nationals behind only Tuohy, Valby and Chmiel as one of 19 women to break the old course record in a blazing fast (on that course) 19:43.9 (she was 196th at Nationals in 2021).

Wow, was she a walk on originally?
The NAU website lists her HS PRs as: 800 - 2:19 1600 - 5:06 3-mile - 18:04 5K - 18:22
Greg ran 9:30 in high school. In 1072 set the 10,000 AR at Penn State, defeating Frank Shorter.
Malmo-I’ll take your word on Fredricks. My info was based on statements made over drinks with Coach Groves…who was often accused of ‘’not letting the truth get in the way of a good story’’.
I had the chance to get to know Greg a bit many years later. He is one of the most giving individuals in the sport. From his work with the NVTC to his officiating meets and so on…just a standup guy in my experience.
Greg ran 4:20.1 and 9:27.0 in high school
Greg Fredericks is perhaps the most overlooked distance runner in American history. Compare his record to all of the over-hyped road runners of the era.
Fredericks won three National titles: the 1972 AAU 10k (in which he set the AR, 28:08), the 1975 AAU XC title, and the 1976 AAU indoor three mile. That 10,000m AR was the 12th fastest in World history at the time.
Five times runner-up at 5000m.
If it weren't for the likes of three no-names -- Steve Prefontaine, Marty Liquori and Craig Virgin -- Fredericks would have had EIGHT National titles over a period of ten years!

Horace Ashenfelter. At Penn State, he was a three time all-American and NCAA champion in the two mile. Olympic gold medalist, 1952 in the steeplechase and the only American to ever hold the world record in that event. Fastest HS mile: 5:00. (In HS, he played football, basketball, baseball, and track.)
Pat Casey saw success on the state level in Montana in HS, but not impressively. He won AAU XC Nats once, but never did NXN or Footlockers. Broke 4 at altitude in college. 3:52 miler.
