I gotta agree with the negatives people have posted. I've lived in CA for a short time and found it to be pretty lonely. Everyone there seems to hang out with their established group of friends and aren't warm to outsiders. I found people to be "fake" like they would say we'll hang out and then never do. Why even exchange numbers then? There's a lot of hot girls but if you're not a baller then you stand no chance. I met a male nurse who was making six figures with overtime over 15 years ago. But none of the female nurses were interested because he wasn't a doctor.
What I found weird was that everyone drove their own cars and almost no one car pooled. Not only was every place overcrowded, but every parking lot was filled with hundreds of cars filled with a single driver in each. I hung out with a group of 7 and we all drove 7 separate cars. People had to stalk the parking lot just to watch a movie.
Then there is the weird obsession with their cars, as if the car you drive identifies who you are. I see many Californians on social media have a profile picture of their car instead of their face. In me twenties I hung out with a 30 year old who still lived at home because he couldn't afford a place. He owned 3 cars, a BMW M5, an Audi and some other expensive European car. It boggled my mind.
The homeless are definitely a problem. I went to study at the library and it was taken over by homeless. They were loud, obnoxious and stinky. They occupied all of the library computers. One was watching Justin Bieber videos on YouTube and laughing very loudly, disturbing everyone. There were homeless who talked loudly on their cell phones in the study areas. This was at the new (at the time) library in downtown San Diego.
Things I love about CA are the perfect roads (but not the traffic), the food (Mexican, In-N-Out, cheap Asian), the casinos everywhere (back before they were legal in MA), the beaches, and of course the weather. But what good is La Jolla Cove if you can't even find parking?
