I've been trying to walk-on to my HS track team ever since I first stepped foot on campus, but nothing has been working out for me so far:
Freshman year: Lockdowns, season got cancelled.
Soph year: Got injured
Junior year: Couldn't make the standards
Senior year: Still haven't made the standards so far
After a ton of close but fruitless attempts at the sprints earlier this year (12.3 100, 56.8 400), I figured that I'd go for the 1600 since a 5:00 is a bit easier for most people to hit than the other events. I started building up my mileage a few weeks ago, hit 18 mpw last week, and got a 5:35 1600 last night.
Relatively speaking, it's further off than my 100 and 400 times, but I'm feeling optimistic since there's a ton of room for improvement. I didn't wear spikes, didn't have any competition, and most importantly, just started distance training.
Any advice? I need to hit that time by mid-February.
