Dropping down in distance and running a tune-up on the track before a national meet is not unheard of. It shouldn’t affect her too much in San Diego and she might just get a national record with all the cross country fitness.
she runs a LOT of races but this seems crazy before the National Championship, so I hope not, and hope she does well the week after.

I just noticed that she ran a 2:08 800 a couple hours before she ran her 9:08 on the BU track. She might just give the national record a scare assuming she is not in the 800 again.
Yes, except it won't be the record when she crosses the line.
Do you have any basis for believing that or are you just making a stupid statment because you're a Tuohy hater?
She's in great shape after having a superb XC season so there is no reason to think she doesn't have a better than average chance of breaking the recard, particularly on the fast BU track. Emily Sisson has the current indoor record at 15:12.22 and Katelyn Tuohy's best on an outdoor track is 15:14.61. She ran that last spring and she is in better shape now than she was then. Also, and again, they're on that fast BU track. Having Annie Rodenfels in the race will help and she will certainly push the pace. Brit Katie Snowden is in the field but she is more of a middle-distance runner. Some of the others like Mercy could also make a go of it.
Tuohy may or may not break the record but she will give it her best. Something tells me if she doesn't break it, you will bag on her because she didn't. If she does break it, you'll find something else to bag on her about. Haters gonna hate...
I like Tuohy and I like all of the runners in the race. I just have a feeling that Cook is going to pop one. She ran 15:25 in high school without the benefit of expert college coaching.

I would also like to see Cook "pop one." I like her. She's a great talent. I would like to Cook & Tuohy both get under the record.

You sure don't see like you 'like Tuohy', you bash her at every opportunity.
Cook was coached by her dad and mom, pro runners, so is not the typical college frosh. In her interview she said her training in HS prepared her very well for college and it is not much different. Her parents are pros. Her 15:25 was on an oversized track with pro pacers the whole way. Still very impressive for an 18 year old and she has a ton of upside.

It seems like a clear prediction (or maybe a wish) that Cook will beat Tuohy on Saturday. I guess we shall see.

She actually has not run a lot of races, just Franklin Park and Champs NE, as she did not run for a hs xc team.
This track event would give her a race 1 week before Champs national, which is no different from nxn teams from NY, NE se and ca.
I give her a very good chance to break 9 in this race. It just sets up right. Peak fitness, fast track, ideal field.
She will also be favored to win Champs (foot locker) national race.

How is it bashing Tuohy to predict that she might not win?
